I can't believe croup is already making the rounds here!! Poor Mitchell has a horrible history with croup and we were up with him last night. I hate it so much, its the most terrifying virus I think. And now that he is getting olde enough, he really fights the treatments. He wouldn't let me get his inhaler near him, he wouldn't keep the sat monitor on him for me to get a reading (but I figured heck if he is fighting it he is probably fine). He has stopped breathing on me twice before with croup (well the first time we aren't sure if it was croup) so I don't sleep at all when he is sick. I have been up since 230am and am exhausted. I am really hoping they go down for a nap soon!!

thanks for letting me vent...anyone else dealing with croup already?

I'm so sorry your DS is ill! I hope he is feeling better and that you were able to get some rest!

We're not dealing with croup, but the illnesses are making their way through our house too. We've all had a cold or strep to some degree over the last two weeks and my baby just can't seem to shake it. I've been looking forward to fall and cooler weather, but now I remember why I longed for spring last year.

Take care and I hope that nasty croup is gone soon!

Yikes, that sounds awful! We just had it last week (Amy), but it was not nearly that bad. We had one night where we sat up with her, but she slept most of the time except for sporadic coughing and getting scared. She never actually had trouble breathing as far as I know. But like you said, I knew she was getting better when she started fighting the hot-shower-steam treatment and yelling "nooooo bathroom!" The worst part for us was not actually the croup (though that was scary) but the 3 days of horrible bad temper that followed it. I guess maybe her throat still hurt?

I am sooo not looking forward to cold season -- last year was rough.

Sorry to hear that Jen! Yes, Emilie had the croup last month already, I thought that was early for it. Hope he's feeling better soon.

I'm so sorry you guys are going through this. We just had it for the first (and hopefully last) time a few weeks ago. I was really, really scared hearing Ethan's breathing at night. Jackson was not quite as bad.

    Hope Mitchell is better soon!

It is so scary!! My older son never had it thankfully, but Benjamin came down with it on Saturday. The oncall dr. wasn't very compassionate either. I ended up taking him to the ER at midnight because of his struggle with breathing. When we got there his fever was almost 105 and he was so exhausted he didn't even cry. They said his chest didn't sound too bad, but his throat was very swelled. They gave him some meds and did a breathing treatment, I don't know what they used(not albuterol), but it helped. He had RSV as an infant so the breathing thing scared me. I hope we never have this again and I hope his twin brother doesn't catch it either. We are all tired here. Thankfully today he seems better, maybe eating more than 4 crackers in 2 days helped. Also all he would drink was milk, the nasty white mucus he choked up last night was awful, but I didn't know that else to do. I just didn't want him getting dehydrated.
Hope your little guy feels better soon.

We've dealt with it already this year. Mine have a bad history of croup and bronchitis. Last year they had RSV. Sarah started having asthma attacks also. So, I understand the worry. I don't know when I'm ever going to let mine sleep in a room w/o a monitor. I've woken up at night because of what I've heard over the monitor and walked in on each of them not breathing. The nebulizer is our friend. I always keep the meds for it around and I'm not afraid to use it.
