The babies are 5 months old now and break out oft heir swaddle....
They do not roll over yet. but I need to get them to be able to sleep again.
They have pretty good head control when they do tummy time so I am thinking about letting them sleep on their tummy... what do you think...
I seriously was up with them AT LEAST 10 times last night..

I was putting my girls on their tummies to sleep at 3 mos. My mom talked me into trying it for nap times as they would just not nap, and waalaa - they slept better. I was kind of nervous at first - checked on them all of the time, but like yours, mine had good head / neck control at 3 mos. I slowly worked into putting them down at night like that too. That's when they started sleeping through the night. Well... from eight pm to 4 am. Which was great compared to every 2-3 hours. Now at 7 mos and ACTIVELY teething - we are back to every 3-4 hours awake and they are standing in their cribs!! How time flies!! :)

I put DS on his tummy to sleep for naps starting at 3 months, by 4 months he was tummy sleeping at night, he wasn't staying swaddled anymore at that point.

If mine would do it I would have them on their tummies in a heart beat.

Have you tried the miracle blanket yet??? We are struggling with the same thing but I do think the miracle blanket helps them sleep and it does keep them "contained" longer than a regular blanket/swaddle did.

Also, when I asked my ped about belly sleeping she said "he is getting older now" and I said "you mean he can sleep on is belly?" and she said again "he is getting older now" and I asked "does that mean to do what I have to do?" and she said "do what you have to do". If you ask me it was her way of saying belly sleeping is fine without actually saying it :).

Mine are four months and about 3 weeks ago we started sleeping them on their tummies for naps. From then on they just won't sleep on their backs. If they can pick their heads up and have good control I would just let them get some sleep. I was checking on them constantly for the first couple weeks of doing that but I have finally been able to sleep. They are now sleeping from 8-5:30 and then again from 6-9. They won't sleep for more than a half hour on their backs anymore. I just wouldn't swaddle them if you sleep them on their tummies.

My ped was vague like that too. mine sleep on their bellies for nap and bed time. It's great. They are great w/ tummy time and they love to sleep that way. I actually read the SIDS study that made everyone change their minds regarding sleeping on their bellies and it wasn't THAT convincing. They really only found that it was a bit more likely to have sids on their bellies than their back. It wen't from .005 to .007 or something ridiculous like that. THe pediatrician said to me yesterday "I know some pediatricians, whom you know, who put their babies on their bellies from day one, but I have to tell you to put them on their back."

You know your babies - do what you think is right.

We have slept our babies on their bellies since about 3 weeks old. Mommy and I both sleep on our bellies and they hated sleeping on their backs, so we figured it is an inherited trait. We use angel monitors so we get alerted if they stop moving for longer than 20 seconds. This helps us to feel better about getting to them if something happens. I feel safe about it and our Pedi doesnt seem to mind it at all. The babies have been sleeping 7 to 7 since they were 10 weeks old. They seem well rested and happy.

You have to do what you think is best and sometimes it goes against what you read and hear.

Mine both love to tummy sleep (have since 2 months), so get YOUR sleep, and don't worry.

If they can move their heads they are probably fine...

I feel that if SIDS is going to happen, it's going to happen regardless of how they are sleeping.

Of course (I'll admit it) I STILL check my guys in the night now, and probably ALWAYS will... Just be smart about NOT having pillows and heavy blankets or stuffed animals in the crib that would get in the way of their faces.

Get some well needed sleep, if they will sleep, you deserve yours too!
