ive tried the avent magic cups and the kids dont get them.
i've tried the nuby spouts and they bite them, then choke on all the liquids that come flying out.
straws, forget it! the nuby ones require you to bite down first and they dont get that either!

    any suggestions?

I know you said no straws but have you tried the Munchkin ones? My two got the hang of them pretty quickly. Good luck in your search. We had to go through a couple of brands before we found the Munchkin ones that worked well for my two.

We do the gerber hard spout ones when I can't deal with a mess. We've gone through so many sippies, I totally feel your pain!

It's like finding the holy grail... I think I tried every type, had them on Nuby straw ones then decided I hated those and switched them to Playtex sipster ones w/handles. Within 1 week of helping them, they figured out how to tip them back themselves. And every baby is different so you might have to try many different ones before you find a match w/you and them. I do know a lot of people do like those Munchkin straw ones but mine hated them and I couldn't even drink from them so who ever really knows!!??

the sippy that worked best for us in the beginning was the nuby no-spill cup. it has a soft silicone spout that requires almost no pressure to pass liquid. it makes them potentially messier but for training it worked really well for us.

The Nuby straws are the worst! I myself can hardly get anything to come out of them. The Munchkin straws are a totally different story. We started with the Playtex sipster with handles and they worked great. The Nuby straws scared me off straw cups for a long time, but I tried the Munchkin straws around 18 months and mine really like them. I just do water in those as they leak some. I love the Dr. Brown's as the liquid will come out easily, but as a result, they really leak. It is real search to find the right cups.

We went thru like 6 different types of cups too. When they were 12 months, my boys liked the 5oz take-n-toss hard spouts (got them on diapers.com) and the munchkin straws (don't get the "travel" kind, they're horrible and leaky.

We also have a "sippy graveyard" of cups they tried and rejected! The ones that we ended up sticking with were the Gerber Fun Grips Starter sippies. They worked great for us because they have handles to make them easy to hold, and the soft spout was similar enough to a bottle to ease the transition. Plus the valves are interchangeable with other Gerber sippies. :good:

Like many moms here, I have a cabinet full of cups that my boys hated to drink out of. Here is what we had luck with...

Gerber cups are easy to clean and not too difficult to drink out of. We used the two handle cup with the soft spout in the beginning and have since switched to the Gerber Fun Grip cups (lids and valves are interchangeable with the soft spout cup). Have not had trouble with leaking.

My twins drink more fluid from a straw cup. The First Years Take and Toss straw cups (and sippy cups) are super cheap and I have found that these are actually the best for us! They don't have valves in them so they are very easy to drink out of. I don't let them walk around the house with the straw cups because the straw pulls out of the cup and can make a mess, but otherwise they don't leak that bad! If they want to carry a drink around, I give them the Gerber cup or the Take and Toss sippy.

Good luck on your quest for the perfect cup!!!

Early on the best ones for us (though quite pricey) were the Born Free soft ones or the Take and Toss. We tried most all of them once they got the hang of it and settled on the Gerber Graduates hard spout. They could get the liquid out, but we've had few leaks/spills with them. I never had luck with straw cups and it wasn't without trying!

I'm a big fan of the take and toss cups. I started my boys out with the smaller size a few weeks ago and they did great. We're now using the bigger ones and I'm about to give straws a try. They're light weight so I think it's easier for a younger kid to hold plus when I lose one I don't freak out. I also love not feeling guilty when I find an old one behind the couch or under the seat in the car and decide to toss it rather than open the lid. Oh and I like that I can condense them in my diaper bag. I stack them up and just fill them from my water bottle if they get thirsty.

One thought about the Avent ones. . .

Are you using the white soft teats or the green harder ones?

We had our best success with the playtex series of cups and the munchkin straw cupsonce they figured out how to drink from them. We're using the Coolster Tumblers playtex cups and the take and toss sippies and straws.

I like the Playtex sippies w/handles and fairly hard spouts. they are short and squatty and are for 9mo. +
    playtex sippy

if you have the short squatty Nuby ones with handles, you can use those as snack cups later...

good luck. its hard to find the right ones for your kids!

It took some time before my twins could easily drink from the nuby sippy cup without having water all around their clothes :) it's only now that is by one year and 2 months old that they drink from it normally. Good luck.
