Okay, I admit I'm being a little lazy. I work full time and so does DH so when we get home and get dinner, I'm looking for short cuts!

since the girls are eating lots of table foods now, I've been opening a can of green beans and cutting them in half for them. Obviously this is not ALL the food they get! I still get them Stage 2 jars of fruits and veggies, plus chicken, cheese, etc.

    Is this okay??

I used to give my girls canned vegetables and still do. When you are crunched for time, canned vegetables can be such a saver! I work full time also and we eat canned veggies a few times each and every work week.

Do it all the time. Even though not alot of nutritional value in canned veggies - they are soft enough for babes without alot of teeth, gives them practice mashing and chewing, hand mouth coordination, and feeding themselves and it's better than puffs all of the time. I found that steamed fresh or even frozen veggies still come out too hard yet for my girls to "chew" through. AND I'm a big chicken when it comes to them choking. Canned veggies are fine.

I use them when I'm in a hurry (or being lazy). I rinse them first to help with the extra salt that's in canned food.

Canned veggies are fine, and usually much cheaper than baby food. Just try to buy the no sodium or low sodium varieties. It's amazing how much added salt there is in canned foods!

Hooray for shortcuts! I do canned veggies, too, but in moderation. The sodium content is HUGE so I switched to no salt added frozen veggies. It takes a little more time to prepare, but I feel better about giving it to them.

The first thing my pedi suggested for finger foods was canned fruits and veggies. :)

There's nothing wrong with them, but if you have a couple extra minutes to microwave, frozen are more nutritious (and lower sodium) than canned.

We started off with canned veggies, I was always able to find "no salt added" varieties at my store, so that's what I bought. Better for me and DH too!

then I discovered the Green Giant Frozen Simply Steam veggies. They come in a ton of varieties without sauce and the girls love them! They're far more enthusiastic about the frozen veggies than the canned ones, and really who can blame them? I think the frozen ones taste much better too! And they really only take a couple minutes in the microwave. I am so not about cooking, I'm always looking for healthy, quick, easy shortcuts!

Canned carrots and canned green beans were a big hit when they were first eating finger foods. Now, my kids can easily share a whole can of green beans for a snack or as part of their meal! (We get "no salt added.")
