Canned, frozen or fresh?

I'm wondering if you guys buy fruits and veggies fresh, canned or frozen. I try to buy at least some things fresh, but in order to give them a good variety I buy some things canned and frozen since the fresh stuff goes bad too fast. I usually buy grapes, blueberries, strawberries, apples, carrots, asparagus and brocoli fresh; peaches and pears canned in 100% juice and mandarin oranges canned; and peas and green beans frozen.

The cans of fruit say they have the same nutritional value as fresh - is this really true?

Mostly fresh and frozen here. But I do buy the mixed fruit in cans for my 2 year old. Not sure on the nutritional part???

I wonder about this, too. I bought frozen peaches and I noticed that they have citric acid added. I think it's a preservative and I'm worried about giving it to them since the ped said no citrus and it's dervived from citrus fruits.

I would suggest looking closely at the labels. I haven't done anything but fresh and baby jars, but I do make baby food ahead of time and freeze it in jars. Just watch out for additives and chemicals, etc. Maybe buying organic canned would be better, too... I have serious doubts that canned is as nutritious as fresh, but I know a couple nutritionists have posted around here before. Maybe someone knows for certain.

I do all three. I buy frozen peas and broccoli (organic from Trader Joe's), canned pears and peaches in pear juice (but I rinse them before serving them too), and the rest I purchase fresh.

We've used canned pumpkin. Mostly I buy fresh but some things I buy in big jars like applesauce (unsweetened), or babyfood jars like peas and peaches

FYI Mangos have been on sale here and they are very similar to peaches in flavor and nutrition. The fresh peaches I've seen lately are just nasty! We bought some jarred baby food peaches but my girls prefer fresh pureed mango. Go figure!

Fresh or Frozen veggies are best as canned have too much sodium. Fruit of any kind is okay as long as if its canned it is canned in 100% juice as the syrup has too much sugar. These are good things for us to observe as moms for both out health and our babies.
