    1) We haven't worked on many songs but they do a rendition of Itsy Bitsy Spider that people might be able to decipher but it's not very clear.

    2) I've lost count of their words but I'm sure it's in the hundreds by now -- they've definitely hit the "language boom" stage.

    3) They are using some simple sentences that can be easily understood like, "No, no, nooooo... too high! Get down, cracker! Thank you." (spoken by Trevor to the graham cracker he'd balanced on a cup earlier today) They also shout commands at the dog that he must understand because he obeys.

    4) They are working on their alphabet and will repeat the sounds after I say them. They also will practice on their own making the sounds although they aren't always in the right order. They can also count to ten with a little help and 5 consistently without help.

    5) We haven't worked on this yet.

My twins are 21 months today. Michael has been able to identify upper and lowercase letters since he was 18 months old. Both now can identify all of the letters. Mikayla is attaching beginning consonants to sounds like /t/, /b/, /m/ and some others.

Michael has been able to sing Twinkle Twinkle, Itsy Bitsy Spider, the ABC song, a color song and a few others for a few months now. Mikayla is just beginning to sing so that we understand her.

Both twins are now able to put 2-3 word phrases together. Michael is very advanced, I'd say Mikayla is about average. But then again, I've been a teacher for 20 years!! (Masters degree in reading, specializing in prek-k and 1st grade)

Bryce can almost sing the first three words from the Barney "I love you" song. Of course, it sounds something like this:

    "Iiiiiiiii luhhhhhh uuuuuuuuuuu"

I know my boys are older now but it hasn't changed much in the last few months other then they have a larger vocabulary.

Sing a song, like twinkle, twinkle little star and be understood (by someone other than family?)??
    Yes

How many words do they use??
Never counted but it seems to be a lot!

Can they make complete understandable sentences??
More like two to three word sentences. Mostly two words.

Do they know their letter sounds??
    Some

Can they identify letters and tell you what sound it makes??
Jet can identify all letters in upper case and sign language and some in lower case. However if I asked him what his name was he said "name" or "brother", whatever! Troy can only identify some letters however, he can leap tall buildings in a single bound! We all have our own special gifts ;)

*I also wanted to add that they have been in speech twice a week because at 12 months Troy wasn't even making one sound and I was concerned about Jet's receptive speech. I think they are going to be released soon but we keep going because they love it.

My guys are older than this and can't do any of it. I have no idea how many words they have. Should they be at this point?

Not really. Bea will sing some of her ABC's and Elmo's World, but I don't think anyone else would know what she is singing.

How many words do they use??
    No idea, probably over 100.

Can they make complete understandable sentences??
    Yes.

Do they know their letter sounds??
    Not sure.

Can they identify letters and tell you what sound it makes??
The can identify some letters, but I've never asked them what sound it makes.

    Why do you ask?

Yes (they are 25 mos now but could at 23). Mostly Liam hums the tune but it is instantly recognizable.

How many words do they use??

I can't be bothered to count but people are endlessly amazed in public by Jocelyn's vocab.

Can they make complete understandable sentences??

Joss could at 20 mos and Liam can now

Do they know their letter sounds??

    I don't know... I never asked.

Can they identify letters and tell you what sound it makes??

Liam has known the whole alphabet upper and lower and in sign and out of order since 18 mos He can also count to 20 and identify words that begin with each letter. Joss learned her alphabet at about 23 mos.

I summarize them as follows, Liam is more interested in the parts of things (like letters and numbers) Joss is more concerned with full words.

I was just trying to figure out where Esther is. It seemed like she talked a lot and we could actually understand her, so I just wanted to compare notes with some other mommies! :)

Thanks so much for the help! I appreciate it! I love that I can come to this site and ask anything and I get so many different replies form such a varied group of women. THANKS!!!

At that age mine barely had 10 words between them, so no to all of them.
