Jack did fine with his bottom front two teeth but he is now cutting three top teeth and he is misesrable. He will ONLY open his mouth for his bottle, forget about solids or any type of "talking" other than whining with his lips firmly pursed shut. He was up fairly often moaning in bed last night. I did not know whether to give him motrin or teething tablets. Can you use them at the same time?

We just started using the tablets so I don't know much about them. DH gave them to him around 1 last night and it got him back to sleep but he was up again around 3 and I gave him Motrin. I hope that was okay :) :).

Are they the Hyland's teething tablets? If so, yes, totally fine -- they're homeopathic, and no problem to give them along with Motrin.

I've found they help calm a mildly fussy baby (I think they contain chamomile), but if your poor kiddo is in real pain, then probably Motrin is your best bet...

My DD just cut her second tooth -- she's been waking from naps really early for the past couple weeks, and we were making grand plans to change up their schedule, drop the third nap, blah blah -- and then all of a sudden she started napping great again, and what do you know, she has another tooth!

DH and I were like, ooOOhhhhh. Duh. LOL!

I did that today! I admit I was a bit worried, I gave her Tylenol, Motrin, a tiny bit of oragel AND Hylands teething tablets (all several hours apart, of course!) but I don't think I am going to mix that much ever again. Nothing seemed to work for my poor baby. The pediatric nurse said that it was fine to alternate between Motrin and Tylenol as long as I waited the number of hours between doses that it says to on the box. She had never heard of Hylands, but said if it was all natural that I could give it a try. Hope your baby does better than mine!

Is it better to alternate between motrin and tylenol than use one consistently. For example, on a bad day is it better to give Motrin, wait 6-8 hours and then give tylenol, wait 4-6 hours then give Motrin etc...? I have been just doing Motrin back to back after waiting the designated time span between doses.

    Thanks,
    Amy

Hi there. I don't want to worry you and the information I'm about to give you is third hand, but there was a case on my other message board of a woman having to rush her baby to emergency because he ingested an almost lethal dose of belladonna, even though she was following the directions on her Hyland's tabs. I threw out my teething tabs after learning this. I won't be using them again because they're not regulated by the FDA (since they're homeopathic) and therefore one tab may have more belladonna (or other ingredient) than another due to inconsistencies in the manufacturing process. Just a word of warning. This didn't happen to me personally but it was enough to scare me.

Tempra works best for teething at our house.
