Can you predict shoe sizes months in advance?

My girls have always had small feet, and they don't seem to grow fast. At 26 months they're both a 5 (though Sarah's feet are slightly larger). A year ago Amy was a 2 and Sarah was a 3.

Does that mean I can count on them going up about 2-3 sizes a year? I'm thinking of buying boots for next year on clearance (in a size 8?), but I don't know if the sizes go up evenly.

I really don't think you can. Mine will stay the same size for a few seasons, then grow. I can't predict when it will happen. But, if you really love the shoes and they are really cheap, it may be worth the risk. After all, you can always take them to a consignment shop if they don't fit and you may make most of the money back.

That is risky. I personally would not do it. BUT, with that said, both my kids went up two whole sizes in one year.

I wouldn't do it. Marcus just spent over year at a sze 12, finally moved to a 13 last weekend. Jon has been a 1 since last spring. When they were younger they changed sizes a bit quicker, but not in a predictable way.

I had the same question for my twins too. They are both size 4 and 5, I can feel both of their feet are getting tight. They'll be size 5 and 6 this Spring/Summer but I can't predict what sizes they'll be in for Fall/Winter. They are having a lot of good clearance boots right now. Ugh

I sure can't. The boys were in the same shoe size for 6 months and then went up a full size over the Summer. They've gained another half size since then. I'll buy sneakers a size up for sometime in the future but I wouldn't try to predict what their sandal size will be next Summer much less their boot size next Winter.

If it's a good enough deal that you could sell them in season, tag-on for what you paid, though... go for it.

The boys feet have been pretty much the same as A & S. We're now wearing size 5s, though Nick is due for an upgrade.

I also agree that it is a risk. It's one I'm willing to take. I buy most of the boys clothes a year in advance. We don't always fit into it the following year since we're on the small size, but the quality I'm able to get buy combing the clearance racks at the end of a season is worth it for me.

FWIW, I bought their summer sandals last month (size 6), and am planning to buy them rain boots and snow boots for next fall/winter (size 7/8). With boots I don't think it's such a risk if you err on the side of roomy.....an extra pair of socks until they fit well isn't going to make any difference.
