Can we bypass Sipee and go straigt to straws?

I am a first time mom and have been reading some of the threads on sipees, cups, etc. I see some people really like the straw cups better than the sipee concept. Is there a reason that we need to do sipee cups first or can I go straight to the straw cup? Is it easier to transition to a cup from the straw vs. sipee? I don't know about the benefits, risks, etc. My little ones are only 6 mo and we are just starting solids but I thought I should get an idea of how to proceed with drinks soon.

    Thanks for your help.

Sure you can. Straw cups are actually better for speech development than regular sippy cups.

It is definitely worth a try! I wish we would have done it that way - the sippies have been a battle from the beginning.

    Sure...you can try.

I did but it didn't work...mine couldn't figure out how to suck through the straw. Even after they did well with sippies, they couldn't figure out how to suck the straw...then it became they could suck through the straw but kept holding the cup up like a sippy and then all you suck is air.

Mine can now drink from both (as of a month ago...they finally got how to drink from a straw cup).

Most of the children in the world have never seen a sippy. Don't fall into the trap of thinking the modern conviences we have are necessities. They are not necessities.

I don't even think they had those 10 years ago, did they?

Now I'm scared thinking of letting my one year old drink from a regular cup. But yes I'm trying strawcups next and hoping they figure them out. I've also heard that they're much better for their development than regular sippies.
