I am in need of some help with my babies and their eating!
They seem to be going down to 3 bottles a day( almost only 2) and I need to know if it is too early for that yet?

    Here is our sched:
    Wake:6:30 am
    7:00am Bottle 6oz
9:00 Breakfast w/juice (eggs & grits, cereal w/fruit,yogurt w/friut) some of the things that they eat
    9:30-10:30 nap
11:00 snack w/juice or water (puffs or fruit)
12:15-12:30 lunch veggies, meat, pasta,or whole grain rice (some examples)they are really eating all table foods
    2:00-3:00 nap
3:00 4 oz bottle (I'm having to fight with them to get them to eat this... they act like they don't want it!)
    5:00 dinner (table foods)
6:30 baths & ready for bed
7:00 9 oz night bottle with cereal in it
7:30 bed & sleep through the night

Does this sound ok? My mom keeps saying they need a vitiamin supplement since they are starting to eat less formula... what do you all think?
Could you anyone lend me some advise?

    Thanks!

they should be getting at least 24 oz. formula a day until a year my doc said. then i am to start introducing milk. i would ask your doc on what he thinks because from what i hear they all say something different

i started mine on solids at 6 months. no eggs, chocolate, strawberries, or peanut butter, all nuts, for first year i was told. also no more then 4 oz. of juice a day they really don't need the suger in it. and i can always dilute it so that will make it 8 oz.
try taking away the 11 snack and give a bottle
then 12:30 food see if that can get a bottle sneaked in.
when they wake up they may not want abottle right away so instead of 3 try 3:30 maybe you won't have to fight them then

    Here is our schedule.

    7 wake, milk
    8 breakfast
    9:30-11 nap
    11 milk
    12 lunch
    1:30-3 nap
    3 milk
    5 dinner
    7 milk, bed

Sometimes they get a snack about 3:30 or 4 but not in high chairs, just crackers or puffs and water while playing. Mine are mostly breastfed so I can't tell you ounces. I don't give vitamins. I say if they are eating fruits and veggies they get plenty. But I am not into supplements, you ahve ot make the decision for your family.

A couple of things that you can do is cut out the 11am snack and give them a bottle instead. Even if they only take like 4 ounces than that add to the daily total. Also you can move your 3 pm bottle back a bit and see if they are more hungry for a later bottle. You can also give them formula in a sippy with their meals. Every little bit helps.

Mine were still having more formula at that age, but if they are getting the right balance of foods, and it looks like they are getting a good variety, it could be ok. I would run it by your pedi. at the next appointment just to see what they say. Our pedi. is against vitamins unless they are really missing out on some nutrient - but the PP saying they are all different seems to hold true.

My babies are 6 months and I have one twin who refuses the bottle unless she is asleep. She was terribly reflux. The doctors biggest concern was getting enough calcium in their diet. For this they eat custard, yogurt, and I make up custard using their own formula. So instead of drinking their formula they get it a bit more solid. here is a website for the recipe for the custard www.heinzforbaby.com.au (just click on the age of the baby at the top) "baby's own custard" At this age he said the average formula intake was 600 ml per day. My girls get 300 ml in a bottle at various times and the rest in their food. See what the pedi says.

Hmmm... I would recommend calling your ped and asking the question now. I just did this last week due to DS not taking in as much as I thought he should be. The Ped told me that he needs at least 20 oz/day of formula. I exclusively pump so I also talked to the lactation consultant and she said that there may be times that my milk is higher in calories than formula so it is not an exact science with bm. So anyway, we've been offering a bottle more often and before solids. He does eat a bit less, but that's ok since he's getting what he needs from his milk. I also add milk to cereals for them and count that too. Never heard of the custard. Very interesting.
