Can roll but won't

Both of my girls have been able to roll from tummy to back for a few weeks now. The weird (or maybe not so weird) thing is that they usually won't do it -- at the end of tummy time, when they have decided that they have had enough, they will often just fuss until I roll them over rather than just doing it themselves.

At first I thought it was because rolling over was too much of an effort. It used to be a major production that looked like a lot of work. But lately when they do roll it is a quick move that seems effortless, so that's not it. The books (with their dire warnings about watching your baby constantly because "a baby who can roll will") make it sound like kids will be so enamored of their new skill that they will do it at every opportunity ...

I'm not worried about it -- they obviously don't have some sort of developmental delay or anything -- but it is really annoying and it seems like they are content to just go on like this [IMG] Did anyone else's kids do this, and when did they stop?

Oh yeah, my girls did that, especially Brooke and it made me crazy [IMG] They pretty much stopped being so stubborn around 7 months or so, but still on occation they get a little lazy

Oh my guys still do that. They would rather sit or climb on something. I wouldn't worry yet, but if they don't want to sit or try to crawl by one I would start to worry then.

It's almost as if they are telling you 'hey, I"m past that... that's old news for me. You know I can do it!' [IMG] My son's first word was ball. He said it fairly consistantly for a few weeks and then stopped. It's not that he couldn't do it, it was old news to him. I wouldn't give it too much of a second though! [IMG]

My DD rolled from tummy to back at 4.5 months. Now at 7 months she plays on her tummy and then like yours she starts fussing instead of rolling over. She will roll from her back to her tummy all of the time and then start fussing to get back over. Everyone told me to practice with her for about and week and she would get it. We've been practicing and NOTHING is changing.

Mine started rolling over around 4-5 months but then stopped until about 7-8 months. Drove me crazy. I knew they could do it but they wouldn't. Try not to worry.

That's only if they are on the couch or a bed. They seem to be drawn to see what's over the edge [IMG]

It'll happen!! Be glad that they are able! [IMG]
