I don't have my super baby food book with me at the moment and I need to know if my twins can have halibut with us tonight. I need to all DH on my lunch hour and tell him how to prepare it, so if they can have it I was going to leave a portion of it plain with no seasoning and lemon.

I'm going to do some googling and see what I can find for you. I think our dr. told us only tuna for a while, but I can't remember for sure. I'll be back with more accurate info! :)

This one recommends no fish before Age 1
Wholesomebabyfood.com has some good info that should help. They recommend white fish and Halibut was not on the list of "safest" fish. There is a great baby food recipe too.

I just asked about this at my 9 month appt and my doctor said to wait until a year...I was sad, too, b/c we're not big meat eaters. We only eat chicken and fish so right now it's BORING to just give them chicken, eggs, beans, and dairy for protien. I can't wait to introduce fish!

We eat a lot of fish in our household so my boys have already had a variety with no ill effects. I think a lot of it is cultural. My husband's family is Norwegian so they eat a lot of fish and compared to family that still lives there we introduce fish a lot later than they do. I think a lot of the reason is because of the tiny bones that can be in it, so just be sure it is cleaned really well. My boys favorite is probably herring and they also seemed to like the cod fairly well. THey were not salmon fans.

My girls have had sole, salmon and tuna so far. Cod is next. So far they have liked everything, and done really well with it.

We are not big fish eaters here, but I did ask our pedi about it and she just said no Shell Fish.

Desiree I have to go against the grain with this one too. As a woman who lives in alaska where the Halibut is fantastic! I whole heartedly think its perfectly OK to give it to the babies.
My mother does too as she loves to try and feed it to them. I will say they may not be that fond of it at first...so we added some butter - that seemed to help :)

As wth anything just watch for an allergic reaction. Enjoy!!!
