My 33 weekers are 6 weeks old now, and so far I have not taken them anywhere except to the doc. Do you think it is ok to start getting them out a little bit? I would like to before RSV season starts and we will be confined to the house again.
I would check with your pedi. See how he/she feels about it. You will find very differing opinions here
I guess it depends where you're taking them. If you want to go outside then make sure they will be warm enough but not too hot and go! If you're going to go around people then call your pedi and ask. If he has no opinion then use your best judgment. The more people that are in an enclosed space the more potential for germs and sickness. I would personally rather go to relatives house than the mall for example when they were that little.
I agree with Jenny! No problems taking them outside for walks or to a family members house, as long as noone is sick, but I would ask the ped about crowds. Personally, I would try to limit exposure since they are so young, but I understand the need to break free from the 4 walls!
I feel your frustration; my girls were 34 weekers and our pedi didn't want them exposed to a lot of people (and definitely NO children under double digits) until they had their second round of shots at four months. It was challenging; i did my best to have friends come over, but there were lots of places we didn't go. That said - as pp's said, being in open air is much better and safer than being confined to a space where everyne is generating germs; i think there should be a hierarchy for wht's safe. is there some outdoor space/garden/zoo that you can walk around in?
I wouldnt take them any place with the general public. Over to your parents house or a friends house (where no one is sick) I think would be okay. I have heard the flu is going around early this year so I would be careful...
you can check with your pedi but that's about when we started taking our 34 weekers out for short neighborhood walks and very brief trips to the mall (yes, mommy needed to get out). At the same time, I know SO many sick babies right now (mine were included in that bunch last week) that maybe there's something going around? So I'd probably skip the mall and stick to short neighborhood walks, if anything.
My twins were born at 28 weeks, and came home 10 weeks later from the NICU (They were 38 weeks at discharge.) I took them out 6 weeks later to the park, for a walk. That's it though...Well, except for the doctors!!
