I had a friend of mine, who is Italian, give me some pastina to give my guys to eat. It is a teeny tiny pasta. She said that she grew up on this stuff. My guys are 6 months and are just starting to eat solids. She said that she never ate the cereal, but started on this pastina stuff! The grains look a little bigger than the rice cereal so I am not so sure.......what do you think??

I would think that they might be a little young for that texture, but you can try it!! I was giving mine puffs at 7 months, so I guess you aren't really that far off! Let us know how it goes!

I don't think it's really an issue of texture, it's more about what's in the pastina (which is pasta, not cereal). If you do decide to give them pastina, just know that all dried pasta (unless otherwise indicated) is wheat-based. I think most peds suggest waiting to introduce wheat until they're about 1yr to avoid creating allergies.

I've known lots of moms who've given wheat before that time, so that's parts up to you. We don't have any wheat allergies in our families, but I'm definitely holding off on wheat because I have several friends with celiac/gluten intolerance, and it is a HUGE bummer <_< .

Other than the texture being an issue, I don't see anything wrong with it. If they can eat it, I would give it to them.

I am also Italian - and grew up eating the stuff. It is very good if you know how to make it - In fact, I still eat it today! Aside from the wheat thing, as mentioned before, there is no reason you can't give it to your babies. The pasta is so small that it does not need to be chewed, and if they can handle the cereal they should have no problem.

Let us know how it turns out!

I love pastina. My mother is so ready to give it to my babies. I was told by the pedi not to give them wheat until 9 months (tomorrow), but they already started arrowrooot cookies. I am just holding off since I don't want pastina to become a daily thing. I think 6 months is a little young, but check with your pedi....

Mine were trying Lexington Style Barbecue at 5 months (Just little bitty pieces...) So I'm probably not the person to ask. =) I don't think it would be a problem though.
