    Hi there,

I'm new here and I want your advise please.

I'm pregnant with my third pregnancy. After 5 years due to a sterilization and did the reverse last year October. I was on Clomid for a month(Jan '09) and then in Feb'09 I had a miscarriage at 4 weeks due to x-rays and no one thought to do a pregnancy test before the x-rays. After a D & C and a month later my hormones was back to normal and so we started the Clomid again and the end the beginning of May 09 I was pregnant. But now my concern is that maybe it's twins. When I found out I was pregnant and did my scan at 6 weeks there was 2 sacs and the gynae told us that one sac will fade, at every scan the sac was there and now I'm 24 weeks pregnant, and hears two heartbeats one on the right side and the other one on the left side. I'm huge now then I was with my previous 2 pregnancies. I had terrible nausea that last all day. Can any one give me advise or explain this to me.

    Thank you

:welcome: So, when was your last U/S?? I had an U/S at 7 and 11 weeks, and only one baby was seen. It wasn't until my regular scan, at 21 weeks, that we found out we were having twins!

Sounds like it's very possible. Wonder why the Dr. told you one sac would fade? Have you had another ultrasound since? If not I'd be asking for one. Good luck!

I would be asking for another u/s as well. I think with being 24 weeks, they should be able to tell. Good luck!

This is just my guess but the doctor may have thought the 2nd was vanishing. I had a vanishing triplet and the Dr. told me that a 2nd would probably vanish too but she's still hanging in there at 20 weeks.

I'm really puzzled as to why they didn't do a follow-up ultrasound though especially since you were on fertility meds. My Dr's checked every week through 10 weeks to make sure that the vanishing triplet did indeed vanish. Even with my singleton, I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and then again at 12 and 20 weeks. I've also heard from other women that their vanishing twin turned out to be a baby so you never know! Good luck and I hope you hear the news you're looking for.

I also think you should ask for a follow up u/s, especially since you are larger than your singleton's and they can find the extra heartbeat. If nothing else it will reassure you that everything is going fine with your singleton, or help you prepare if it is twins!

You said the dr detected a heart beat on the right & left side??? If he doesn't suspect twins, why is he/she checking for two heart beats and if the dr detected a heart beat on both sides, wouldn't he/she then suspect twins and do another u/s? Or like pp said, bring up your concerns, and ask if they can do another u/s to double check. I too don't know why the doctor would assume the other sac would fade. But we could all sit here and wonder but the only real way to find out is to push for another u/s...good luck and keep us posted!!

one of the dr's at my practice told me the same thing about my 5w4d u/s. That there was no way my sac could turn into a baby and they weren't doing another u/s. I called my mw who said there IS a slight chance the sac will turn into a baby and scheduled me a u/s. Then I called my midwife from my dd who said theres a good chance the sac will turn into a baby. I think it depends on the dr.
