Can Chiro Help With Tailbone/sciatic Nerve Pain?

Has anyone used a chiro for LOW, LOW back pain? It's not really even backpain, it's all the way down in tailbone and like a pinched nerve. I'm assuming sciatic, because the location seems more in my butt at the base of my spine.

I've felt great and been very active so far in this pregnancy, but all the sudden when I sit for a while or get in the floor with my children it "catches" and it's kind of persistantly has pain/pressure around my tailbone.

Can chiro help? Or do you guys know of anything else that will?

    TIA,
    Jennifer

I didn't see one during my pg but afterwards my lower back and tailbone area were a complete wreck from carrying them and the bedrest, sleeping in a recliner, etc. They really helped get it back into decent shape. I still need to go for maintenance but I'm not very good about it.

I've been lucky this time, but I had bad tailbone pain during my first pregnancy, and had to use a ""Tush Cush" every time I sat down. Look online -- that's one brand name, but there are others -- it's just a wedge pillow with a U-shaped cutout to take the pressure off your tailbone when you sit.

I carried this thing into the car, everywhere -- even to the movie theater. (You know, back when I still went to movies before having a kid, LOL.)

    It did help a lot!

I don't have tailbone pain...but I've had sciatica with all three pg. With the twins it got most severe during the 2nd trimester...but then amazingly went away around 29 or 30 weeks. With this one I've started feeling slight sciatic nerve pain already....and this started about a week ago at 4wks!! It's enough that I find myself rubbing my upper thigh/butt area...it just aches in there.... not sure if chiropracter could help... I think it's caused by the uterus pushing on the nerve. But I know some pg women love going to the chiro... I think it depends how far along you are...and with twins they might be hesitant to give you any kind of adjustment.

I say go for it. I wish I'd have known about chiropractic for my pubic issues. I go now for regular visits and I've never felt better.

I know exactly what you are going through, and YES I am seeing a chiro and it DEFINATELY helps. I would say go the first chance you get. I was skeptical at first but the pain got to bo so bad. Now it is soooo much better. I get adjusted about twice a week now and there has been no more pain in my lower back/butt area.

Yes, a chiro can help with just about anything incl. sciatic pain. Before I got pg, I saw one periodically for a twisted sacrum (tailbone pain) and the chiro was the only thing that helped it go away. The pain has, surprisingly, not bothered me at all while pg so I have not gone recently. BUT, know that all chiros are trained to treat pregnant women - nevertheless, I would call around and find out their exact experience w/pg women before committing. My chiro treats professional wrestlers and NFL players and is ROUGH - which is great normally, but not what I'm looking for now. If I needed a chiro now, I would be looking for someone a little gentler (perhaps a woman instead of a man?).

    HTH.
