What a crazy couple of days its been. Yesterday was starting out like a completely normal day of bedrest for me. My husband came by to visit me in the hospital around 2 pm. I took a quick shower and while getting dressed started to feel incredibly nauseaous and lightheaded with a slight pain in my tummy. Well, within minutes I felt like I was going to pass out and now had excruciating abdominal pain. I lay down in bed and my blood pressure was 58/33! The nurse put the baby monitor on and both heartbeats were down into the 70's. So I got rushed back for an emergency c-section at 31 weeks. They tell me that I was having some sort of internal bleeding coming from the outside of my uterus. Apparently I had a liter of blood in my belly when they opened me up and then lost another liter in surgery. So of course I got transfused during surgery. But mom, Calvin and Luke are all doing well today. Calvin Jacob weighed 4 lbs and Luke Matthew weighed 3#11 oz. The boys are in the NICU on CPAP right now and are doing well. I'm starting to get some of my strength and energy back but I'm still adjusting to the unbelievable set of events in the last 24 hours.

Oh my goodness, what a whirlwind! I can't believe your babies are here!! Congratulations! What a blessing that you were already in the hospital when this happened. Was it some kind of uterine rupture? I'm so glad the boys are doing well and that you are on the mend. I love your sons' names! Take good care of yourself and enjoy those babies!

I think uterine rupture was the first thought, however my uterus was completely intact and wasn't even bleeding by the time they got in. They said it just looked "raw". Then they explored my upper abdomen (liver, spleen..) and said everything looked normal. So it's unclear where I started bleeding from.

I'm getting more blood today because my hemoglobin's still 7 so hopefully I'll get a little more energy back soon. I'm predicting that the boys will be here for 1-2 months.

My boys were 31 weekers and I think you will like to hear they are doing very well. One of them has a bit of a social problem we are investigating but at 3 years old could read all letters, numbers and knows about 6 mio animal names! The other one is a normal 4 year old whose main interest is power rangers and (who'd have thunk) ballet!
Mine were in the SCBU (that is our word for NICU) for almost 6 weeks each. But they were born smaller than yours!
Enjoy every moment with them (in and out of NiCU), they will grow way too fast!
    Oh and huge congratulations!
