So DH and I have been thinking about Calliope for a name if the baby is a girl. She could go by Calliope, Callie, or CJ (our last name is a J name). Our other DD has a greek methology name so it fits. I can't help but wonder if it is a little too "out there" though and worry people will think we lost our marbles. I know I shouldn't worry about other people but seriously a name is SUPER important.

    Thoughts?

My moms Goddaughters name is Calliope (we are Greek). I like and I like the nicknames you chose that could go along with it.

Our friends just had a baby at the end of September and they named her Callie. I am almost positive that is her name, not a nickname. But don't quote me. I've been meaning to ask however.

If you like it-go for it! Or you could have her legal name be Calliope and just call her Callie. I know someone who's legal name is John, but he goes by Matt(his middle name).

Your daughter-go with what YOU want!

I'm not fond of Calliope because I could see a lot of people pronouncing it wrong, but I love Callie and CJ, so cute! I do think that you should name her whatever name you love, who cares what anybody else thinks, she's your baby!

Love it!!!!! My greatgrandma was a Callie. If I had had another girl I would have named her Callie. I do not think Caliope is way out there but if you want another possibility how about Calista???? Seriously, choose the name you like- dont be swayed

I like it. I like that its not that common, but has a very ordinary nickname Callie.

But I perfer the version with ia at the end. Calliopia.

I don't like Calliope or Callie. Calliope reminds me of a steam boat, the music that the steam boat plays is on a calliope.

I think Calliope is a little too 'out there.' But I love Callie. Why not go for something more traditional that could be shortened to 'Callie'... I'm thinking 'Callista,' but there might be something else out there that could be shortened to Callie as well.

I think it's GREAT! There are way too many names that are played out and that isn't one of them. I LOVE the name "Callie" and would have named my daughter (lol) "Calia" (straight Italian) and in english it would've been "Callie".

LOVE IT! Do it! Be BRAVE!

I think if YOU like it then thats all that matters...its not like she is "stuck" with Calliope if she doesn't care for it as she gets older...she has options...and I love Callie or CJ for short. :)
