Calliope Ann and Thalia Lyn Arrived

    The girls were born Saturday, April 11th after an unexpectedly easy labor. On Friday I started having some back pain. It wasn't coming in regular time intervals, but I never get back pain so I knew something was up. I was sitting and grading papers in the afternoon when something didn't feel right. I stood up to go to the bathroom and on the way, my water broke. Off we went to the hospital. We were checked in around 6pm. I had an epidural by 9pm. I barely felt anything for the rest of the night. Around 4:45 am I started to feel like pushing, but it wasn't urgent. The nurse told me we could wait for up to two hours and let the girls labor down naturally. The doctor on call is a personal friend and I was in no hurry. So, I opted to let him get some extra sleep and to rest myself. No sense in pushing when Nature will take care of it. At about six am, my friend came in and things started moving. Calliope Ann was born at 6:34am and Thalia Lyn arrived ten minutes later. Calli weighed in at 5lbs8oz and Thalia was 5lbs6oz. They spent a few days in the NICU because their body temps weren't holding well. We're all home and doing well now. What a change - zero to two in 36w5d!
