Caleb and Silas arrived June 13th (the 13th week of my bedrest - how lucky?)!

We were at 34w1d when Caleb's amnio sac/water broke while I was in the hospital on bedrest at 9:00 pm that night. I didn't start having any painful labor contrax until 10:30ish pm, and I had a little epidural, had to get my cerclage removed (geez, the doc left in part of it, ugh), and they got me into the OR for a vaginal delivery since both boys were head down.

At 11:00 pm, Caleb arrived, crying well much to my relief. 11:05 pm, Silas followed suit easily! Caleb weighed 5 lbs. and was 17.25" long. Silas weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20" long. Due to our having TTTS (Stage I), Silas was redder in color, but luckily Caleb was not anemic. They hung out in the OR for a little bit with us, and then the NICU team took them upstairs just to make sure they were good and stabilized. Both have been breathing on their own and all. . . Caleb had an IV for a little while, but that was removed yesterday. They are doing well, and Silas may get to come home on Wednesday and Caleb may be home by the end of the week.

The labor and delivery was the easiest part. Because my cerclage was only partially removed (I was 8 cm, and the doc was getting worried about getting down to the OR in time, etc.), I ended up with a cervical laceration that caused me to lose a great deal of blood. The epidural wasn't providing enough anesthesia, according to the doc, during repairs that she had the anesthesiologist give me something "more". During the delivery, the epidural was very minimal. . . just enough to cover my painful contrax but not enough to actually cover the pushing, etc. This "more" anesthesia that was given to me was overdone - my feet and legs went numb even though I had not had that during the actually L&D! It was a nightmare to me because my blood pressure dropped, and it made me feel crappy. So here I was, lost blood from this cerclage and now overdosed on anesthesia. This has made recovery HORRIBLE for me. I had to get a blood transfusion. They finally gave it to me last night after trying to push me to walk down the hall and all that when I couldn't. I am weak and very pale. . . a little better today. But it has been really hard on me mentally and physically. I have only been in the NICU three times to see my boys. : ( I have to go in a wheelchair and can't do much.

On the upside, I can pump breastmilk, so I've been working on that. It's getting better and better in the milk department, and the boys love it. Tomorrow, I will be trying to give Silas milk straight from the breast. Little goals. . .

I'm at home although I'm not certain if I should be because I am weak and having some up/down emotional stuff going on. But after 7 weeks in the hospital, I needed to get out of there, I guess. It's just hard to be at home and only be able to sit on the couch and watch everybody else doing things. Quite frustrating. At least I get to be with my older children and see them/not have to be away.

Thank goodness for my husband. He has been awesome. He is in the NICU as much as possible and keeps me updated on the babies. He is very hands-on, and I don't know what I'd do without him!

I will try to post some photos at another time. I'm just home and as you can see, pretty overwhelmed and not feeling so hot. But I just wanted to share the news of my boys' healthy arrival despite the TTTS!

Congratulations! Isn't it amazing after the constant worrying to have two healthy babies. What a weight lifted off your shoulders. Great weights for 34 weeks. I'm glad the delivery went basically well as far as vaginal over csection. I know you were worried about that. I hope you are feeling great soon and those little guys get to come home. I'm so happy for you!

Emily, congrats and welcome to Caleb and Silas. I know how hard bedrest is (and wow 13 weeks you are a champ :)), but it sure paid off in the end. Sounds like they are doing well. Can't wait to see pictures. BTW, my Mom was born on Friday the 13th as well. It will be a lucky day for your family now as well. :)

Congrats to you! I have read many of your bedrest posts and was excited to read that the boys are doing very well. I am sorry you are enduring so much- take it easy on yourself and try to rest. Those boys will need you when they get home!! I hope you feel better each day and things go smoothly for you as this adventure progresses.
