cake for 1st birthday

ok, so i know i've still got a month, but i'm having a BLAST organizing their first birthday party. anyway, i was wondering if there was any kind of cake/frosting that they should not have? i plan on making those ice cream cone cupcakes & don't know whether yellow cake with chocolate frosting would be ok or if i should use something besides chocolate. tia!

 

For my DD's first bday we made her a chocolate cake with white frosting, decorated with pink.. and bought a cake from the store for everyone else...

 

Hey - thanks for posting this. I am right there with you and SO excited about our party. I was wondering about the cake too. I know a lot of my friends just plopped a store bought in front of their kids.

 

We had a carrot cake & a regular yellow. We avoided chocolate cake. They really don't eat a lot (well, mine ended up with more on thier faces than in their tummies), so hope that helps!

 

We used a store bought cake for our party. It was yellow cake with white buttercream frosting. They LOVED it! Really, they ate a ton, I was worried they were going to get sick, but they didn't! I have never done chocolate for a first bday, I am not sure.

 

I think you'll be safe with whatever you decide. Mine have had a taste of chocolate and have done fine with it.

I am doing white/vanilla cakes with butter cream frostings. I do not know if chocolate would be the way to go for my guys. They have not had alot of sweets and I am sure just these cakes will send them into overload if they even touch them.

 

Great question i have also been thinking about this. i want to do chocolate for there cakes just so i will show up in the pictures even better.

 

I made them chocolate cakes for their own cakes. They were cookie monster cakes. Then for the "everyone" cake we did a sheet cake with the same cookie monster cake in yellow placed on top. The frosting was blue so that was a lovely sight!!
