I was going to wait and see what the future holds before I got my mind set on what kind of delivery I would choose (if even given the choice), but all of this talk on c-sections vs. vaginal delivery has me wondering if a section is recommended with a single placenta to decrease the risk of TTTS during birth? Does anybody know anything about this, or did you give birth vaginally with mono/di twins?
    Thanks. Mel

Both my peri and OB told me there's no need to have a C-section with mono-di twins unless you have diagnosed TTTS prior to the birth. I ended up with a C-section because baby A was breech and baby B transverse, but if they were head down, the doctors highly recommended vaginal due to the smaller risks for both the mother and babies.

Thanks. I keep forgetting to ask my doctor. I had just read that TTTS can occur suddenly at any time and was wondering if there were a lot of cases of it occurring during L&D. Good to know.

I am not sure about the TTTS thing, but both of my drs (peri and OB) prefer a c-section w/ all twins unless both are head down

I had a c-section with my mo/di twins, but they were both breech. I think my peri would have let me go vaginally if Baby A had been vertex, but I probably would have felt more comfortable with a c-section anyway, due to the risk of acute TTTS at delivery. We DID have TTTS from 18 weeks on though, and even though it stabilized, one of my twins was small and both were kind of small for their gest age. As it was, I'm glad we had the c-section, my little one may not have done so well with labor, she only had an apgar of 3 when she came out, and that was one minute behind her sister!

I know there are some studies on this - you can find them from the girls on the TTTS foundation website, on the message boards. They also say not to go past 36 weeks, but I went to 38w4d, and was fine, and I'm glad I did, the babies really needed it, and we were stable and checked often.

    Good luck!
