    Hi Ladies:

I was wondering what everyones experience was in regards to their doctor's opinion on vaginal delivery or c-section?
Did your doctor give you an option when able to do both?
I understand a lot of you probably didn't have an option and had to give birth through c-section. But I'm wondering of those that were able to give natural childbirth did your doctor say- at any point let me know and we can do a c-section.
Just wondering what your birth experiences were like.

I obviously would like a c-section and am trying to weigh whether they are going to make me give naturally if I can.

I had no choice as baby A was breech. If they were both head down, she would have given me the option of either vaginal or c-section, she rocks!

If DS hadn't had problems, I could have had an unmedicated vaginal delivery. (Or attempted it at least! :D ) My OB's criteria for vag. delivery were 1st baby vertex & 2nd baby not heavier than 1st. But since DS was in bad shape, C-sec it was.

My OB gave me the option and both my boys were head down! I opted for a c-section. She gave me the option early on, and then due to preeclampsia and high blood pressure, she determined at the last minute it was necessary to only do the c-section.

My doctor wanted me to try but thank goodness she was out of town when my water broke and the doctor I was seeing let me choose. I went with a c-section even though both girls were head down. I wanted a c-section the whole time and didn't want to try to push the girls out, it was what I felt was right for me and the girls.

C-section was great, no complications and no problems with the girls.

My babies were a good size. Twin A was head down and ready to roll but Twin B was breach, and also a little bigger than Twin A. I wanted to avoid a C section (I wasn't militant about it, it was just my second choice). I gave birth in the O.R. (vaginally), knowing that we might have to do a C section for Twin B. But James did a summer sault at the last minute (literally, after Evan was born) so they were both born vaginally with no trouble. I think the second twin can be delivered breach so long as he's not too much bigger than Twin A (my friend just did this very thing). To me the most important thing in the world was two healthy babies - I would have given birth under water, standing on my head - whatever I had to do to get my two little love bugs out safe and sound!

My twin B was breech so my OB did give me the option of doing the C-section. I chose a vaginal delivery with the understanding that I might need the emergency C if something went wrong with twin B.

But fortunetly we had a wonderful delivery. Twin A came out headfirst and twin B was delivered breech with no complications!! It was the right choice to make for us.

My doc and I discussed it, she said after all I have been through with the ivf/miscarriage, etc. that I would be a candiate for an elective c-section but really encouraged me to go vaginal if I could. Baby A was head down and I really wanted to avoid a c-section, and luckily things all worked out. I am really proud that I was able to deliver vaginally, and honestly, with the epidural, it was not as bad as I thought. My entire birth story is posted on my blog (link in my siggie) if you are interested.

I was given the option right away. It was totally up to me. I had chosen a c-section ahead of time and even had it scheduled but got put on hospital bedrest for pre-e and had to have an emergency c-section anyway.

My OB said she wouldn't tell me what to do, it was my choice (unless it was an emergency, then she obviously was going to step in and call the shots.)
I really wanted a c-section because I wanted to avoid hours of labor followed by an emergency C, and possible danger to baby B. Since we did IVF, we were especially nervous about a safe delivery of both babies. I might have considered a vaginal if I had already had a baby that way, but was glad when my OB acted relieved and told me I made a good choice when DH & I opted for a scheduled C-section.
Baby B was slightly sideways, but not enough to qualify as breech, so I am glad I was allowed to do the C-section at 38 weeks. I had a very easy recovery too, and both babies were big and healthy (almost 7 lbs each.) I definitely made the right decision!
Good luck. If your OB gives you a hard time, go find a doctor who is very careful about high risk multiple pregnancies. Those docs who think multiples are "no big deal" anymore are wrong. Twin pregnancies are riskier and more likely to have complications, no exception for deliveries.

I had to convince my doctor I want a vaginally. He recommened a c-seciton but I really didn't want one. Just over a year before birth I had major abdominal surgery and wanted to avoid that again. But I went into labor and only dialeted to a 4 and stopped progressing because the cord was around baby A's neck twice so I had to have a c-section and it wasn't as bad as I thought.

At my very first OB appt at 10 weeks we talked about the birth. I never discussed having a c-section with my OB and he never mentioned me having one. We always talked about vaginal right from the beginning. He said as long as Baby A was in the right position we would attempt a vaginal. I did have a vaginal delivery and delivered Baby A head first and Baby B breech (who was 2.5lbs smaller so no complications with the delivery) Everyone is always surprised when I tell them I had them naturally.

My Ob won't deliver multiples anyway except through C-Section. He made this very clear to me on the first appointment so we were on the same page the whole pregnancy. I was okay with it, because I wanted a C-Section anyway and I had time to prepare for it.

[SIZE=10pt]My OB said that she preferred to do C/S with twins ~ however as long as the lil ones were cooperating she would let me make the final decision. DD wasn't cooperating the whole pregnancy, she was breech from day one it seemed like. She ended up "kicking" her way out (busted my water 35wks1day) and I progressed really fast. Water broke at 12:55, they were born at 2:51 and 2:53..so we ended up having an emergency C/S. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be...no complications other than an allergic reaction to the tape they used over the incision. (I've heard a lot of people are allergic to it)

    Good Luck ~

My OB encouraged me to attempt a vaginal delivery IF both babies were head down, especially since I had delivered vaginally before. If the babies were in any other position, however, he would have been much more comfortable with a C-section.

I was really hoping for a vaginal delivery, and both babes *were* head down at 35 weeks -- but I had a surprise placental abruption, and ended up with an emergency C-section. It was really NOT a fun experience, and was much more painful, with a much harder recovery, than I had anticipated. I'm still not back to normal, and it's been more than three months.

But, I am eternally thankful that both babies were safe and healthy -- not to be overly dramatic, but the C-section definitely saved their lives and mine.

My doctor mentioned that we could do a c-section since Baby B was breech but she'd rather try vaginally and I agreed entirely. As long as there are not mitigating factors, vaginal is safer for everyone.

Not offered. I had a vaginal delivery before and my doc would be doing a vaginal again as long as baby A was head down (even though baby B was breech) and as long as baby B wasn't 2lbs heavier than baby A. Which was not the case. I had a scheduled vaginal delivery at 38w2d.

My doctor would only do a vaginal if both babies were head down which was the case on delivery day. I never asked him if he would just schedule a c-section because I really wanted to try vaginal.

Yep, my doctor was very pro vaginal birth with twins but my twin A was breech so I had no choice. It went a lot better than expected.

I had an emergency section with my first son, so I just assumed with my twin pregnancy it was a given I would have a repeat section. My twinkies were both head down for almost my entire pg, so at the end my ob actually gave me the option of a VBAC if I wanted to (which from what I've heard since is unheard of). She talked to DH and me and explained the risks of uterine rupture in a twin VBAC delivery, so we went with the c-section...

I needed to respond to this because I felt very similar. I delivered our dd vaginally and had an emergency c with our son. My recovery from the c was very difficult. I couldn't lay down for three weeks. I slept sleeping sitting up in the living room. I had to receive two units of blood on day four in the hospital. I was in there for almost a week. I feel for you. I didn't feel "better" until about 8-9 months pp. I wouldn't rush it since you had an abruption and I'm sure lots of blood loss. I hope you start feeling better! Give yourself some time. And I also agree about being so thankful to God that our babies were born healthy without complications.

I don't think I would of had an option, but I could be wrong. If Baby A was head down, my OB would of had me go vaginally. However, she was breech so c/s it was. He kept telling her to flip since I think he would of rather me go vaginally. He even said that if she was to flip to head first, they would of cancelled my scheduled c-section. So, I am thinking no I didn't have a choice.

I do wonder if I were to have another baby, if I would have the option of another c/s or VBAC. He is all for vaginal deliveries, but I rather have another c/s for several reasons (liked it more than a vag, plus all the risks with a VBAC). I may never know though.

My doctor pretty much "pushed" for the c-section. He gave me all of this stuff to read about c-section vs. vaginal delivery of twins. Carley was breech - but that didn't mean I couldn't try to have them vaginally. He was concerned for Carley's safety etc. He said it would be much safer for twin B to have a c-section. That said - I agreed immediately to have a c-section. Plus - I read so much stuff about how twin A born vaginally and twin B born c-section - I just didn't want to have to go through both recoveries! My c-section was a very easy recovery. I think anyway - it was my first. But my doctor did a good job.
