Hello, I am new to the site and am going to welcome baby 4 & 5 in July. This is my first pregnancy with multiples. I know there is an increase chance of me needing a c-section because I am carrying twins, but is there a certain percentage of twin pregnancy that result in c-section deliveries.
I have never had a hard time with any of my vaginal deliveries, they have all been pretty quick and easy, does that play a part?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give!

:wavey: Hi and welcome to TS!! I don't know the exact numbers of c-section vs. vaginal deliveries but I would venture to guess that more often than not twin pregnancies end up with c-section deliveries. That is not to say that you cannot deliver vaginally, many women on here have there are just a lot more factors that are taken into consideration when making the decision. GL!!

Thank you. I am hoping to go natural but I am also preparing myself for the realization that a twin pregnancy is a whole new ballgame! :)

i think a lot depends on your doc and hospital. my doc told me that it was 50-50 whether i'd be able to attempt a vag delivery (both must be head down), but my hospital stats are about 70-80% of twin moms deliver by c-sec, so there are a good number of twin moms who attempt vag, but have to have a seection anyway.

i'm planning on worst case (section) and hoping for the best. my sister is a L&D nurse, she's told me that if i go vag, the nurses can coach me through anything i need to know.

I´m also pregnant with number 4 and 5 and had my first 3 vaginally. Unfortunately I will have a c-section now because both babies are breech.
I´m not sure of %, but on some books I´ve read that twin pregnancies end in 40% of cases with c-sections....

I'm 30.4 weeks pregnant and I had a dr apt last night and my dr asked me if I wanted to schedule a C Section..... I was wondering what everyones experiences was with that..... Im not sure if I would rather KNOW when I was having them or take the chance and wait to see when they come. I know that if the first one is in position you can deliver the other one breech (or at least thats what my dr tells me). I had my daughter well my only one with an hr labor and 10 min delivery with no meds or n e thing so I know I can do it but how bad is it to have a c section?

I think it depends on three things:

    1. the babies position
    2. the doctor, their comfort and experience level
    3. the hospitals policy

My doctor said as long as both were head down, or as long as baby a was head down we could absolutley try for a vaginal delivery. She had no problem delivering baby B breech if need be. Also, as long as the 2nd baby wasnt much larger than the first baby, and if they were a good gestational age. She did want me to have an epidural just in case she did have to deliver a baby breech. Talk with your doctor and see what they say :) GL!

I totally agree with E&M's mom. Position and Drs experience matter a lot. My Baby A was head down and Baby B was breech. I was induced at 34w6d for pre-e and HELLP. Delivered vaginally with no problem. I did have to push and not all of the Drs in my group would have agreed. Best of luck. Talk about it now so you can have time to plan.

My hospitals policy os you MUST have an epidural so if they need to, they're all set to go for a c/s. I had my last daughter with no drugs, but if they're going to tell me I must have them I'm not going to complain!

I had my first 3 fairly easily (DD1 required a little help) and had the twins via c-section. The only reason for that was because baby A was breech. If she had been head down we would have gone with a vaginal delivery. The dr did tell me that an epidural was not optional just in case of an emergency. However, each dr is different and I have heard so many different stories. At your next appointment just ask and what they like to do and ask every question under the sun to help you make your decision. Having a c-section isn't great, but it's not so bad either. Good luck!

My first three were alot like your first delivery. Quick and easy with no meds. Especially the last one with my son, he was born 17 mins. after arriving at the hospital with only 2 pushes. I am starting to come to the realization though that vaginal or not, this is going to be nothing like the other three!!! LOL
Sounds like the best thing is to discuss with my doctor. Let her know what I would like to have happen and hear her thoughts and go from there. Thank you all for your responses though, they have been very helpful.
