is one 'better' than the other? does one heal better, hurt less, etc?

I don't know, because I have only had one c-section and they did staples. I was never given the option though. Have you talked to your Dr about what his/her preference is in this regard?

me too only had staples and nobody asked me what I want. but can tell removing them wasn't too bad as I was afraid of.

nope! i've yet to talk to the doctor. someone at work mentioned she had both (1 set of staples with one c-section and stictches with the other).
i was wondering which healed better

I had staples, too...and wasn't given an option. Like the pp'er said, the removal wasn't as bad as I expected.

Most doctors are lazy and will just do staples, since they are easy and fast.... BUT ask for dissolvable stitches!!!! All doctors do them, but wont gove you the option, you have to ask. TRUST ME, dissolvable trumps staples by far!

With all 3 of my c/s's I was given staples. I think they do that so stiches don't have to be removed after leaving the hospital.

Staples are commonly used over sutures because of ease of application. The closure will take your Dr. approx 30-60 minutes and they just want to get you into recovery and with your baby ASAP.

Sutures are less scaring and you can have dissolveable put in. However, your Dr. will want to see you for a check up. Therefore, they usually put in non-dissolveable because you will be seeing your Dr. anyway and they will take them out at that time.

Staples are easier to keep clean.

Personally, I do not care what they put in. I want out of the OR and with my babies fast and if that is the way it will happen.

In my former life, I was a surgical tech.....enjoy,

I had staples, and thought they would hurt coming out, but they didn't!

Ive had staples with both of my c-sections. I was really scared about having them removed the first time but I barely felt anything at all and I am really a big baby when it comes to pain. They made me stay in hospital until they removed them on day 4 after the babies were born then I could go home. I am in Australia that seems to be the policy here. Good luck and you will be enjoying your babies so much it wont matter what they used.

I told my OB that I would prefer stitches (vs Staples) and he said that was the way to go! That was how he did it. I was happy!! Nothing to take out. That is what I would recommend.

I had stitches with my c-section and had no problems with them at all, they were easy coming out. I did have staples when I had my appendix taken out many years ago and I had no problems with them either but I am not sure if that is the same with a c-section.

I have had staples when I had my appendix taken out and remember it hurt when they removed them. For my c-section I had dissolvable stitches and they were great. I would definitely have those again. :good:
