I'll be 34 weeks pregnant on Tuesday. I might have to have a c-section based on the position of the boys. Here's my concern/question. I can barely stand lying flat on my back long enough for them to measure my fundal height and find both babies heartbeats at my doctor's appointments before I have to close my eyes and concentrate on not throwing up and/or passing out. How in the world would I be able to lie there long enough to actually be prepped for, and have, a c-section???

    Thanks!!!

Thats a hard question I would let everyone know how you feel about laying down maybe you can be on your side till the last moment or something like that. Dont be afraid to speak up Good luck I hope it all goes well.

Thanks. I plan on asking my doctor about it. We're still not sure if I'll have to have one. My Baby B is breach and I'm almost 100% positive that A flipped around and is now breach. Even if B is breach and A is Vertex I'll probably end up having one. I'm a bit freaked out about it and then when this popped into my mind it freaked me out even more!

I would definitely ask your doctor about it. I am not sure if this helps or not, they drugged me up so good, I could not feel a thing. I don't think that I could have felt my stomach to even feel sick!
    Good luck!

I had a general so I was completely asleep for the whole thing. Its another option if you would rather not feel anything.

I had the exact same question!! I could barely lay flat long enough for a quick u/s and I had to do all my NST on my side. At my c-section they put a wedge under me to keep me elevated. I did tell all the dr's my concern when we started just so they knew. This happens to LOTS of women, so they are used to dealing with it. It was NO problem. Best of luck to you!!

same issue here, and they did put a wedge under my side so I was kind of laying on my left side, but to be honest, You get the spinal sitting up, then they lay you down and you are numb within minutes and they are monitoring your BP anyway d/t the anesthesia and giving you fluids so I didn't even notice any dizziness :) I wouldn't worry at all about it.

I just about passed out every time I was on my back for ultrasounds as well.
After getting my spinal I didn't feel a single thing ;)

Same here....I was so afraid I was going to pass out or throw up when they had me lay flat on my back, but like others have said...once that spinal goes in and they lay you down, you are pretty numb almost instantly and I had no issues at all

They also give you oxygen, so that alleviates some of the problem of trouble breathing while on your back.

Don't worry! The anesthesiologist takes care of all this. I had the same issue and you will be fine. The whole process for me was done in 20 minutes tops. The anesthesiologist knows this is an issue with pregnant women with twins. They will take care of you. Don't worry

I would get very sick on my back as well. As a matter of fact, I absolutely dreaded every last trimester u/s because of how bad I felt laying on my back. However, when I went in for the c-section they gave some meds in my IV that took care of nausea and it didn't bother me at all to be on my back. I was so nervous I didn't really think about it either. I guess with the epidural and the nausea meds it just completely got my mind off of things and I never had a problem.

Same here, I had an awful time laying on my back for any period of time while I was pregnant. But when i was having the csection and just before it didn't bother me at all, the drugs are good and I didn't feel lightheaded or out of breath at all.

I've been having this question in my mind for the longest time!! I too can't stand being on my back for more than 5min, so i wonder what I'd do if I'm getting prep for the c-section!! thanks for all the reassurance peeps!!

You'll be fine. I was worried about that, too. I was on bedrest for so long and was on my side so much that I couldn't even
prop up on a pillow on my back. I HAD to be on my side. I started panicking thinking about the c-section. I was afraid I wouldn't
be able to breathe flat on the table, as I had trouble breathing during my ultrasounds.

Nope! I didn't even notice it. I think all of the numbing and IV has something to do with it. I didn't even tell the nurse my fears or
anything like that. I sort of forgot, everything was a blur. But I know FOR SURE that it was not a problem at all.
At one point after the babies were out I started to feel a little sick and told the anaesthesiologist and she put something in my IV it
    was INSTANTLY gone!

While they were prepping me for my c-section they had me drink some "stuff" that was in a little plastic shot size glass to help me from getting sick. I never asked for it, they just gave it and it tasted nasty! Once the spinal was in I never felt queasy at all and if I had they did have a pan there just in case. At that point I was so nervous about meeting the babies I never thought twice about getting sick on the table.

nobody told me about this until it happened to me at one of my scans... and after that i just informed the docs at every visit... honestly, there was so much going on when i had them that it never even occured to me to ask, and i never felt any nausea at all... just the drugs... and by the way, enjoy them while they're still in your system :)
