I am sitting her watching Birth Day on dh channel and have seen two c-sections...I never wondered about this until now but haven't seen a c-section where the father gets to cut the cord. Is this not done with a C-section? My H cut the cord when our son was born (Vag) and hopes to cut the twins cords. It is not said that I will have to have a c-section but if I do It would be sad if he can't cut the cords.

I had a c section, it was not a planned csec and it wasn't emergency. I had been in labour for 19hrs and was exhausted so they asked if I wanted to do a csec and I agreed. Anyway, they did NOT give an option to my hubbie to cut the cord, as far I know that is not an option with csecs.

    Good Luck!

My DH did not get to cut Trevor's either, but he was early so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. Actually come to think of it he didn't cut any of our 3 kids. With my oldest DD, she was 9 1/2 lbs and broke her collar bone on the way out, so after she was out they wisked her away to look at it. And then Emilie was born at home and Trevor by c-section.

WOW Bless your heart for going thru 19hrs of labor and than having to have a c-section. Was your H upset about not getting to cut the cords?

I think the way they do it is they actually cut the cord, but leave a lot extra. Then when the babies are being cleaned, he is offered to cut the cord.

We had a planned C-Section & they did not give DH the option to cut the cords. There seems to be quite a bit going on in the OR when the babies come out (or so thats what it looked like in our video!)

I had a planned c-section and DH was not given the option to cut the cords, either. That was kind of disappointing.

My DH also got to cut the "extra" cord.

I had my girls vaginally and DH was not able to cut the cords, but there was so many people in the delivery room. There was a team from the NICU for each girl with the 2 incubators standing by as well as a doctor who was trying to turn Dani.

I am pretty sure that dh got to cut the cord, the extra long one after the initial cut after our c-section (scheduled).

eta: My dh was not given the opportunity with my vaginally born singleton.

This is how it was for us. They left it really long, and then while getting their weights and checking them out, DH got to cut both cords shorter. It's funny, b/c a few days beforehand he told me he didn't want to and I told him that was ok (he's squeemish), but when we were in the delivery OR they didn't ask him, they just handed him some scissors and told him where to cut.

I had an emergency c section an Dh got to cut the cord on Hayden but not Kayne I think he needed some extra care at first so they had to hurry. I am really glad he got to at least cut one though!

I'll have a planned csec (hopefully!) and already asked the doc about this. My DH will not get to cut the cord. She said that even if she agreed, the NICU team would say "no." He has to stay in the non-sterile environment by my head. I think it just comes down to the fact that it's a "surgery" and there's so many people moving about already. I'm glad we already asked though and he's prepared that it's not an option.

My DH also was able to cut the cord on my DD when she was born by c/s. The OB makes the initital cut and clamp and then DH was able to cut it shorter. DH didn't want to before we were at the hospital, but he did once we were in the moment.

I have no personal experience, but from tv I have only seen some that allowed it and it was them cutting it shorter once the baby was already out.
