I have heard from different people that when a C-sec is performed they go in and take out some of your insides to get to the baby! I have watched a C-Sec online and the only thing they took out was the baby! Not sure if it's true or not, but just wanted to know in case. I need to brief my husband on the whole thing to better prepare him! Thanks!!

This is such a great question. Unfortunately I don't really know the answer. I've also heard that your intestines and other lovely "gutt" matter is taken out...but I don't know if that's true or not. I think b/c the uterus is located underneath intestines, etc. they might have to get around all that... But tell your husband not to worry, there's a sheet put up and he can focus on you, not the surgery. Good luck! :)

my scars are right on my bikini line. I dont think there is anything down thet low to pull out seeing they can feel the head so good from there. No I dont think they pull every thing out! Maybe its different when they cut vertically?

My understanding is that after the baby (or babies) is delivered they do bring the uterus to the outside of your body for a few moments to check it over.

I heard the same thing, and though I have had a c-section, I really don't know the answer....I'd love to though!

I don't know if it's true in all cases, but usually they only pull the uterus out (obviously not entirely!). It is the first thing you run into when you cut into the abdomen in a full-term pregnancy - they don't have to get anything else out of the way. But, I'd have your husband look at your face, not the surgical site. Once the babies are out, he can look at them. I know I appreciated the distraction of having my husband talking to me while it was going on so I didn't have to think about what they were doing.

Your bladder sits in front of your uterus and they may have to move that out of the way but most of the time they just cut through your muscle wall and get to the uterus.

I don't see any intestines being removed, seems to be only the baby being yanked out? Thought the doc could have bee a little gentler with the baby though

They definitely took my whole uterus out. Fortunately I couldn't see it, but my DH told me all about it afterwards.

In my case I don't believe they took anything out but the babies! Although like everyone else there was a sheet covering me so I couldn't see anything going on. But, my mom was watching from the side window and she never mentioned anything coming out other then the babies and the placentas.!

The c-section I witnessed, the uterus was removed from the body after the baby was delivered, there was also some minor bladder repair to be done. All of the removal of stuff happens AFTER the baby(babies) is delivered and usually no one is paying attention to the repair, just the newborn. I'm sure some doctors do not remove anything from the abdomen, but it is easier to suture the uterus outside of the body than in it. Especially since the incision is so low and in an awkward place for a good repair. Hope that helps.

I really wanted my dh to be able to video the whole thing but the hospital said no! they made him sit on a stool beside my head and would not let him stand until the girls were out - they let me kiss them and dh left to go to the nursery with the babies and they gave me something to make me sleep! I do not know what all was out!!

I know when I had my classical c-section with my first, they took out all of my intestines, bladder, and uterus. But the doc put it all back! :) But he also said that was RARE and that I was an extremely special case because my little one was so little (less than a pound). It didn't bother me at all that my guts had gotten to go for a walk, but it gives you HORRIBLE gas to get the bubbles of air out of everthing, not just the bubbles from the meds.

I'd still rather have a c-section any day... but that's just me. :)

My DH did this too...told me all about it...I didn't really need to know that.

DH thought they had taken some stuff out of me (other than babies) but it was probably the placentas.

This is exactly right! At least in my experience and I have had 2 c-sections in 2 states so I imagine it is common practice. Another reason they remove the uterus is to make sure the placenta(s) are completely removed from the uterus. Basically, they give it a goo cleaning... Like PP mentioned though it is after the babies are born and your husband will not be focused on that he will be too busy with you and the babies! Also as PP's have said there is a sheet up and I would recommend that your husband just focus on you and talk with you during the births... Actually, I was pretty out of it for the twins... Really tired, and the spinal made me really sleepy.... Anyway, my husband heard the Doctor's talking on the other side of the sheet and for a second they thought there were 3!!! He freaked! It is pretty funny now though!

They don't normally take much out besides the uterus and suture it. Of course they clean out the placentas, but if they don't have to mess with anything else they don't. Your dh won't see anyway.

I don't know about my 2nd one, but the 1st one was an emergency and they let DH in to the OR after DS was taken out. He told me he looked over at me and there was something pink and round on my belly and wondered what it was. I told him it was my uterus! He freaked out, but is now proud to say that he has seen more of my body than I have. :p

Now that I think about it, they must have take out my uterus on the 2nd one too, because the Dr said I had a lot of weird scar tissue from the 1st C. She cleaned it all out and put me back together.

I wonder if it is not only to get the placenta out and suture it, but also to make sure that it is shrinking. Some women have problems with the uterus not going down and they have to give pitocen.

After reading this post, I asked a friend of mine who has had a c/s and she actually sent me the photos. She and her DH are professional photographers, so he clicked away the whole time. It basically looks like a pink ball the size of a melon. She said they closed it up, stuck it back in and stiched away!

My DH was able to watch the whole thing... lucky him!! LOL!! He actually on accident video taped it. He was holding the new camera up waiting for the babies to come out and he didnt know that it was on the whole time. Needless to say, I have not seen it at all. He did tell me that they took something out, he thought it was my stomach. I had complete trust in my ob-gyn, so I figured that whatever he took out he would get back in there!! Just remember, it isnt as bad as it sounds. You cant see anything.
