There's a good possibility I'll end up with a c-section. These twins are never in the same position for more than a few days.

Anyway, for those who have had a c-section, what was it like to get the staples removed? I'm thinking it's going to be painful...it sure sounds aweful! Am I stressing over nothing? How many days after the c-section do they come out? TIA!

I had dissolveable stitches with my first 2 c-sections, and staples with my last. Ellie was born on a Monday, and I came home on Friday. They took the staples out Friday afternoon before I left the hospital. I don't remember any real pain, maybe just some discomfort. It wasn't bad at all!!

    Congratulations, and good luck!!

They took my staples out before I left the hospital, so 4 days post c-section. I was super nervous about them getting removed too, but it was quick and painless. You will still be on pain medication, plus the area itself was pretty numb because they cut through nerves (it still is kind of numb 9 months later...). I wouldn't stress it! Good Luck!

Removal of the staples was NOTHING compared to them making me take the bandage off!! I had the girls on a Sunday night. Tuesday they told me I need to take the bandage off while in the shower. I was so scared that I would be ripping out my staples and didn't want to look down. I would slowly remove a little piece at a time all while trying not to get it too wet. However, the water helped the bandage come off and actually helps the wound heal.

Then, for removal of the staples I was told that it could be uncomfortable. It was not uncomfortable at all, and I was able to watch her remove them all. You can feel it, but it doesn't really feel like anything (if that makes sense).

I was PETRIFIED of getting the staples out (they did before I left the hosptial). The nurse kept saying it wouldnt hurt & I didn't want to believe her...I braced myself on the bed, held onto the rails & waited for pain.....and waited....ZERO PAIN!!!!!!!
Peeling the steri strips (? not sure if that is what they are called) off hurt more than the staples (and that was only like pulling band aids off! :)

I didn't even feel it. Compared to the pain you're in for the first two days-- staple removal is FUN!

Don't worry about it AT ALL.. I was sooo worried that I made them wait an extra day to take them out cuz i was scared. It was nothing. I could've slept through it.

Another one here who was beyond scared about getting the staples out! It sounds so painful. I had my mom holding my hand and I was crying....it ended up being painless. I didn't even feel a thing! I'm hoping it's the same experience for you too!

Are you sure you will even get staples? My OB used disolvable stitches and then glue. The glue just peeled off over about a two week time span and that was it. I did ask several of my friends who had staples if it hurt (I was afraid of that too) and they said they didn't feel any pain- just an odd sensation.
Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll be fine!! :D

Having the staples removed really isn't painful. Maybe a little pinchy but not bad at all.

I will caution you to make sure the physician looks at the incision prior to ordering them removed. With Alex, the doctor didn't examine me (I was nursing at the time but he should have asked me to lay back regardless) and my incision completely reopened within an hour of the staples coming out just hours before I was to be discharged. That sent me back to the OR and general anesthesia to have these big strong sutures placed and put me at huge risk of a really bad infection. I also ended up with a drain tube and an extra 3 days in the hospital. I didn't know of this possibility or I would have insisted on him examining me first.

I had dissolveable stitches with mine.

But I have had staples before for an emergency appendectomy and don't remember it being too bad. Are you sure you'll have staples?

I had the dissovable stitches as well, see if that is an option if you are concerned!

My OB didn't do staples. He did stitches and glue. :) When there was a possibility of having another c-section, different doctor, I requested the same (no staples). I ended up having Evan vaginally. I'd ask the doctor what he uses and if the possibility of having just stitches woudl work.

I had about 20 or so staples and they removed every other one before I was released. Then added steri strips and glue to the incision. (The glue smells awful) The rest of the staples were removed 2-3 days later. I didn't feel them at all. Also, I didn't have any issues with the steri strips either. I had so much fluid from the pre e, that I had more trouble keeping them on than anything.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad it wasn't a big deal to get the staples removed.

I've asked my doctor what he uses and he says he does the staples. My guess is I won't even get the option to do stitches and glue, but I will ask. :)

I was so glad to have those darn staples out. They hurt worse having them, then having them taken out. For me, it was only as painful as a pinch. The reason for that is that some of them had developed a small scab over them were they had been pulled and bled.

Don't worry about the pain!!!!!!! Does not hurt at all! I was the same as you are now and I did not have pain at all.
    Good Luck! :)

It really didn't hurt at all, I had every other one taken out before I left hospital, then couple of days later midwife took out the rest at home.

Don't worry, it really doesn't hurt. The last time I had a staple that had twisted and the scab had grown over it. I needed 3 nurses to try and get that thing out! They kept apologizing, but I couldn't feel a thing! That area is so numb that really, you don't feel it.

I stressed over that too, and it really was not painful at all. Not worth stressing over. I think it was about a week after. The traveling nurse came to my house to do it.

I also had mine out at 4 days after the c-section - I went home at 2 days afterwards but broke out around my staples so they think I had an allergic reaction to the metal ?? so they took them out at 4 days. the area was red and sensitive because of the reaction so I was terrified - but it was painless!!!
