C-Section "bump"

I am concerned about the bump I've got above my c-section scar. I have lost all my pregnancy weight, yet I have this "ditch" where my incision is. My belly is flat below my belly button, but then it rounds inward to the incision and then back out below. I have a ridge of scar tissue close to the top of the incision but this is above that.

Does anyone else have this? Is it still my swollen uterus? Will this go down and not be so obvious? It looks pretty awful and I'm worried I will have this forever. It really is an obvious bulge that will show when I try to wear a bathing suit.

    I'm 5 weeks post-partum.

I have my "ditch" as well. I am also numb in that same general area and have been told that the feeling will probably not return. Ah, well, my babies are worth every little mark they have left on my body!

I think mine's slowly but surely getting better. My girls are almost three. I lost all the weight within a year (and good for YOU for doing it sooo quickly!) but it wasn't until I started exercising regularly that I really can say my belly is almost back to normal. Just last night I was saying to DH how amazing it is that you can barely see my scar at all anymore. And the pooch is really really diminishing.

Unfortunately I still have my ditch.

Same here! I even still had it with my first before I got pregnant with the twins. I am sorry to break it to you, but I think it takes a long time to go away if ever.

Mine too. It is definetly numb & my belly pooches out just above it. I hate it so much! But it is worth it to have these two little angels.

From my first c/s, it took four years to go down.. I was working out like a fiend then - 3 hours four days a week.

I still have mine too!! my incision had to be restitched when the girls were 3 months old - I thought that was why mine looks so funky but I guess it must just be normal?!!

I still have a ditch. Scar tissue is not as stretchy as regular skin so it just naturally does that. You can try to break up the scar tissue by applying some lotion to your scar (any kind will do) and rubbing it (back and forth, up and down and in circles) for about 15 minutes a day. Depending on the amount of scarring it will eventually become less noticeable. Just don't hurt yourself!

    Thanks everyone.

My incision opened 5 days after I had the girls, so I've been dealing with an open wound since then and I was wondering if that had something to do with the ditch and the bulge above it. But it sounds like maybe not since so many others have it as well.

The OB has offered to do some scar revision in the office next week before my incision has completely closed. There is no guarantee that it will heal any different and it will extend my wound healing for several more weeks - plus I'm not sure how painful that will be. A home health nurse has been coming to the house every day for the last 4 weeks as it is....I was looking forward to not having to deal with this anymore. But I'm pretty upset with how it looks down there right now, so I might just let her try to fix it. I plan on working out again as soon as the doctor releases me, but who knows if that will make a difference.

I didn't get stretch marks, hemorroids or varicose veins with this pregnancy so I guess this is a small price to pay. Still, I don't want to feel like Frankenstein every time I get undressed.

I had the ditch as well after I had the boys. Mine was so bad you could even see it through jeans. I asked my OB about it at my six week follow up and he said it would be something I would always have. It may go down, but it would never go away completely. However, contrary to what he said mine has completely gone down within six months. So just because you have it now doesn't necessarily mean you are doomed with it for the rest of your life. It all depends on how your body heals.

in finding out we were pg again and seeing my specialist, i asked my nurse what the raised/hard part above my almost healed scar was....keep in mind i had the boys a year ago. She said it's what they call a Keloid and some people get them. It's just i guess how the scar developes. you can google search it as keloid c-section scar.... good luck caues she said that if i want, the dr. can cut it out when i have this baby but it may heal the same way.
