    Hi!

My twins are turning 3 this fall and I'm expecting our next child (yay!)... so we need some of their furniture for the new baby and decided to get them their "big boy/girl" rooms. We went to one store that my friend told me was a place a lot of people use b/c it's "reasonably priced". We were shocked at the prices!!

So, we've just checked out Pier1Kids.com which seems more reasonable. DH is there now to see if he can determine the quality of the furniture.

    So my questions:

    1. At what age did you buy them their big kid rooms?
2a. Where did you purchase the furniture?
2b. What furniture did you buy?
2c. What was the total cost?
    3. How long do you think you'll be able to keep this furniture and are you satisfied with the quality you got?

Also feedback on what we're planning to buy is welcome, too (the kids are in separate room):

    Bed
    Dresser for girl
    Highboy dresser for byo
    Mirror for girl
    Night stand
    Two-shelf bookshelf.

    TIA!
    -Jen

We bought their furniture at Ikea. We bought a few pieces for their nursury that they shared. Then when we switched them into two rooms, we added pieces that matched. It isn't the greatest furniture, but it is solid wood (not particle board) and should last another 10 years I hope.

I too was shocked at how expensive furniture can be. Then you have to buy two of everything and it adds up rather quickly.

Since we bought the pieces over three separate occasions, it is hard to say how much we spent. But their beds (not mattresses) were around $200 each. Their dressers around $250 (Hannah also has a wardrobe dresser that was around $175). And then the additional items were each around $100 (toy box, bookshelves, etc.).

I really like shoping at Ikea. Is so easy to shop there, store is really kid freindly, have tons of stuff at decent prices. All most all of our funiture we have now is from there as is real kid frendly, and well made. We got the girls a plastic table and chair set they just love to sit at. Only thing is there stuff has no frills and is just as basic as basic can be so may not be the style you are looking for. Good luck

We have all solid pine furniture from IKEA. The twin beds that can be separate or bunked were $250 for the pair. The dresser was $199 and the bookshelf was like $100 or so. We also have the matching rocking chair, which we still use on a daily basis. I've been more then happy with the quality and the prices at IKEA. When we have a bigger house and the boys have their own rooms I'll definately shop there.

    1. We recently bought the boy's big boy furniture....so a bit after 3yrs old.

    2. Bought the furniture at a locally owned furniture store. The brand is called
"Stanley Furniture Co" www.youngAmerica.com The "My Haven" collection.

    3. The boys each have their own rooms. We seperated them shortly after they were born.
We are able to use the original nursery room's furniture (dresser and highboy chest).
We bought a twin sleigh bed in Luke's room to match the other furniture (honey wood color).
For Ben, we bought a twin bed with headboard/footbood, nightstand, and chest of drawers
in black stained wood. The mattresses/boxsprings are Sealy.

    4. Cost. Mattresses/boxsprings....maybe $300/each? Sleigh bed $400
Headboard/footboard, nightstand, and chest = $1750. Not cheap but will
last through the "tweener" years...nice stuff.
