Buying clothes ahead

I'm so very tempted to buy some clothes for next year once the big sales hit... So far I haven't dared though, apart from couple summer shirts at $2... It just seems so hard to predict what size your babies will be in 10 months! The thing is, fall/winter clothes pretty much last from late September to mid-March, so I can't help thinking that whatever I buy, they'll end up using eventually... but still!

When do babies stop growing fast? So far I've been lucky, I've needed a new size at every change of season pretty much, and they just moved up a size again... DD is in 12 months (but 12-18 months clothes for Old Navy etc), and DS in 18 months (and also 12-18 months)... They'll be 10 months on Christmas day... So I guess she needs 18 month for Summer and he needs 24 months, so for the fall I should be getting 24 month for her and 2T for him?

How do you know what size to get when buying ahead?

I have never been able to predict this. I know this is not the answer you wanted to hear, but for us its been true. My girls are finally growing out of 12-18 months and into some 24 month clothes. If you asked me last spring what size they would wear I would have been totally wrong. I guess you can't go wrong if you buy summer clothes a little big though. Shorts can be rolled at the waist and who cares if tee shirts are a little long. Or keep the receipts and ask about return policies. GL!

My friends have advised the same thing, we have not bought clothes for seasons ahead. I wish we could because you can get some for a really good sale price!

I do this all the time. From my experience with DD, she was always right on with her age and size (wore 6-9 month clothes when she was about 6-9 months). The boys are following that same trend. So I have a lot purchased - somethings work, other things don't. DD is now 2, and I don't think I can do that anymore. She had a HUGE growth spurt this fall and I can't trust what she'll be next year. But certain things you can do. Capris can go anywhere from ankle to below the knee. She still wears a pair of 18 mo capris because the the belly/hips area still fit.

I think it's ok to buy some things like jeans or other comfy pants because those can be worn all year long. I think it's hard to predict. Our girls are 9 months and one is in the 20 percentile for weight and the other is more average for weight - 45 percentile so I would have no clue. I don't want to go and spend money and for them to not be able to wear them.

With DD I always bought clothes on clearance for the next season. I was able to do it until she was in 5/6s. She always wore the size appropriate for her age. I have also bought a ton for the twins. It has worked for Mallory, who is my bigger twin. She wears the size that corresponds to her age. But Samantha really needs to be wearing a size smaller than her sister. For now she just wear baggy clothes. At some point I need to start buying 2 different sizes.
