I am SUCH a bad mommy!! My DS is so hard to burp at times, I could spend 30 mins trying to get one burp. I know it's bad to leave the burps in there but seriously, at 2 a.m. after trying to burp for 30 mins, I'm throwing in the towel!

What's the longest time you had to devote to getting a precious burp from your precious??

Noooo, you're not bad, you're amazing! I could never sit there for half an hour trying to burp one of mine. I normally do 5 minutes max, and that is only if I'm convinced they have gas in there. Babies don't burp every time. I try and burp 2-3 times a bottle, that way if I don't get one the first time I may get one later. I normally get at least a burp per bottle, but if I don't, I don't worry too much as it will normally come out on its own a little bit later.

The most we've spent is 15 minutes. I agree with pp that 5 min is usually the max. Don't feel bad if you throw in the towel . You can always try burping later or the baby will burp/spit up on his own.

I think 15 mins is the most here too. We leave DD sat up for 30 mins+ (during the day) as she´s a nightmare to burp! Dont feel bad about throwing in the towel. At those hours, all I used to manage was 5 minutes! Well done on you! Do you use any gripe water?

I know how you feel! My dd is the same way. She will wake up with gas if she doesn't burp sometimes. So if she doesn't burp, sometimes I'll give her mylicon drops so she doesn't get uncomfortable. It seems to do the trick. It is frustrating though!

we used to spend 30 minutes trying to get a burp out of them and then my lactation consultant said the if they don't burp by 5 minutes then they don't need to. If you get a burp after 15 -30 minutes then it is because they have swallowed air while you tried to burp them.

I would try for 5 minutes, and if you can't get one out then let them sit up for a while (if during the day) and try again. At night we would just lay them down and if they had a bubble then they let us know. But 9 out of 10 times they didn't have to.

Don't feel bad! You are not a bad Momma! Both of mine were (and still are) hard to burp. We usually stopped after 15 minutes.

i'm also a 5 min max girl :) i read that generally if they haven't burped within 5 - 10 min they don't have to.

o.k. that solves it, if no burp after 5 minutes, we're done!!

Thanks for the advice, I may have been exaggerated the 30 minutes but at 2 a.m. 5 minutes feels like 30!!

Lol If you're a bad mommy for attempting to burp for 30 mins, then I am a HORRIBLE mommy. 5 mins usually does the trick, but if I know they're having issues with spitting up, then I'll try for 10. Like PP I don't think I've tried for more than 15 mins. Sometimes they just won't burp. OR sometimes they'll wake up after 10 mins crying.. I go in there and pick em up and what do you know?.. they burp like champs

Don't worry too much hun. Just do what you can do. Mother nature will take care of the rest ^_^
