Burping

Just kind of curious when people stopped burping their babies. Mine are 3 months, and they still burp with relative ease. I never even thought about it until a friend of mine mentioned she no longer had to burp hers after about 4 months.

Me too. I actually was talking to my SILs about this last week and said that I was embarrassed to ask the pedi because I thought it was a stupid question. They reassured me that its not (they didn't remember when they stopped burping their kids) and said that I should ask at their 6 month appointment.

For my kids, they still need to be burped. If I lay them down without fully burping them, they bring their legs up and cry like its uncomfortable.

I stopped burping when they could sit up unassisted.

 

I don't remember the exact age, but I think it was around 8 months, but we had awful reflux.

 

Mine are almost 6 months and I still burp them but usually just at the end of a bottle (unless they seem fussy or uncomfortable in the middle of the feeding). I started out burping every ounce (gassy babies), then just half way through and at the end, and then a few weeks ago I thought I'd try just at the end. We still get spit ups but my kids are just pukers.

 

7 1/2 months and still burping!

MINE ARE 3 MONTHS AND WE BURP AT THE END OF THE BOTTLE ( AROUND 5-6 ONCES ).. BUT WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANY REFLUX PROBLEMS

 

We still burp, but only because if we don't sometimes they will spit up a little before they burp themselves.

 

I burped all of mine until it seemed like they didn't need it anymore. It varied for everyone.

 

I think around 8-9 months or so...

 

I kind of stopped recently since they don't seem to want to stay still to be burped and they are so squirmy, they end up burping themselves anyway. Mine are almost 10 monts and 7.5 months adjusted age.

 

I probably burped them much longer than I needed to -- practically till they were old enough to get up and walk away. Mine were never spitters, either -- it just never occurred to me to stop. But I think you can probably stop once they are sitting up, if not sooner.

Us too!

 

I think we burped them until they were around 10 months or so.

 

Ours are almost 8.5 months old and we still occasionally burp them. It's not everytime, but I can tell they still sometimes need it. They crawl around burping all day though. All my children are real gassy.

 

Definitely over 9 months for us. When I noticed my girls burping on their own while playing on the floor I stopped.
