Wow, it's been so long since I've posted to TS! I was really involved in the expecting forum, but things have been so darn busy since the kids were born! We're just now (8 weeks) getting into a routine enough that I can do things like check e-mail, take a shower, post here, etc. (might not all happen in the same day, but still...) It's a really fun stage--they started really smiling and cooing this past week.

Things are going well for the most part. But my question (especially to you veteran moms out there) is about burping our son Ian. Elanor doesn't mind being burped, but Ian screams bloody murder. Not fun! It doesn't seem to matter what position we use, or patting/tapping/rubbing technique. The only thing that seems to work is to put a finger or a pacifier in his mouth and let him suck (which seems counter-productive, but whatever). As soon as he relaxes, the burps seem to come right out, but he freaks out as soon as we take the breast or bottle out of his mouth.

Any suggestions for alternative techniques? Is it normal for kids to be freaky with burping?

Oh, and here's a cute picture of Elanor on our blog: http://timandjo.covblogs.com/archives/025509.html and one of the twins together in onesies I made them: http://timandjo.covblogs.com/archives/025257.html

no advice on the burping, but your kids are so cute!

ds used to scream after finishing off his meal, and we used to think it was because he was upset it had run out, but then we realized taht when he burped he would stop, so it was really the gas that made him scream--but that's really not advice at all....i would say, keep doing what works...

Sorry I don't really have any advice, but my Jackson does the same thing. Sometimes I will lean him backwards for a second and that seems to bring up a burp. I just try to hurry :) . Your lo's are adorable. Love the onesies too!

Cute babies. I know what you mean about having no time to do anything. My DD was very hard to burp but now I just put her head on my shoulder and walk from my room to hers (across the hall) and she is usually burped. It used to take her 5 minutes to burp but since I have started to bring her to my bed in the middle of the night to feed her I discovered how to easily burp her.

I had one that was like that and the other that wasn't. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, Jack started screaming the second you took his bottle or boob away. For us the trick was to just get the burp out as quickly as possible. I would either sit him straight up with my hand on his belly and pat his back or put him really high up on my shoulder to get it out. James never seemed to mind. They are adorable!!!

    Cute babies! Love the pictures.

My son was so hard to burp. He would scream for hours after we feed him. We tried every position possible to get him to burp and it didn't seem to help. Poor guy probably had a sore back.

What I finally did was change the type of bottle I used and mixed formula up 24 hours in advance so the bubbles would all be gone. That seemed to help a lot.
Eventually he grew out of it and didn't have such a hard time. But it sure made for some long nights. Hang in there.

The pictures are so cute! I love those onesies!

I wonder if he could be having gas or reflux and that is causing pain? Is he arching his back or passing a lot of gas? A call to your pedi might be a good idea, or maybe ask if you have a 2 mo. checkup coming up.
