I could be wrong, but I believe that hiccups could be a sign of silent reflux. You might want to let your pedi know. BK gets them a lot and the NICU nurse says the best thing for hiccups is to keep drinking (kind of like us...drink a glass of water), so don't stop feeding them just because they have hiccups.

It's so hard to watch them, especially when you can feel their whole body jolt!

i actually called a 24 hour emergency nurse line once because my boys kept getting hiccups and it seemed like they never stopped. they assured me that they don't bother the babies as much as we think they do. but it is true, while hiccups could be a totally innocent thing, they could also be a sign of reflux so if you've noticed any of the other classic signs (sleeping with neck arched back, crying during or following feedings, etc) you might want to get it checked out.

Have you tried gripe water. Sometimes that helps.

Ruby does this alot and she has silent reflux, it is getting less and less though. I agree that if your babies will drink through the hiccups they go sooner but if not we give her a paci for abit. When we don't do this they last soo much longer.

I was going to say Silent Reflux! So I would DEFINATELY tell your pedi.

Ian is our hiccup baby and started before he was born. i dont think theres much you can do except try to soothe them until they pass.

Kenneth and Ian are 6 weeks old
