Do I still have to make sure they burp after 2-3 ounces? What if they want to finish the whole bottle? Can I allow it at this age? And what if after they finish 7 ounces, and STILL don't burp? Would it be ok to assume that she's not going to burp, and put her in her crib?

sorry if this is a dumb question - I just have to know!

Not dumb at all! I always make sure they burp, even still, because of the reflux. But I do it after they finish. [IMG]

I'm still burping Sophia... she's 13 month old. Reflux.

We let them drink the whole bottle (6 oz.) and then burp them. Our girls were getting so upset stopping in the middle of the bottle that we have been doing it this way for about 2 months now. Sometimes the burps take a while but we work at it until we get at least one good one. If we don't burp, we end up with very fussy babies because of bellyaches.

We let them drink the whole bottle and then burp. We've had to get creative in burping them b/c it's getting more difficult, but same thing pp said about having bellyaches if we don't burp them. One thing we've found works well is while we have them up on our shoulder or on our lap, we VERY GENTLY bounce them and it seems to help the bubble make it's way to the top.

We now burp at the end of the bottle. With ours it seems the burps are getting easier to get, but sometimes we don't get one at all. I don't worry too much if they don't, but I do keep it in mind in case they get fussy then I know to try again, or give gas drops.

We burp at the end too. Sometimes they'll push the bottle away and squirm if they need to burp, so then we'll let them burp and then finish the bottle. I would think you probably 'need' to make sure they burp at least until they can sit up on their own.

We burp at the end or when they start squirming away from the bottle. Sometimes we don't even get a burp. I try not to worry about it to much as long as we spend the time trying.

My kiddos burp just after eating -- but usually on their own without having to hit them on the back anymore.

    Cheers,

You could probably let them drink the whole things, then pound them for a good 2-3 minutes afterwards to make sure there are no deep down burps. If there is no burp it's fine to put them in bed, they probably won't spit-up.
