I know my girls are 7 months old, so this seems like a weird question at this point. We had a bunch of burp cloths given to us, but I've recently decided we don't have enough. If I miss doing laundry for one day, I'm in trouble. Karina frequently spits up 3-4 ounces, so we go through them fast. I bought some Gerber cloth diapers at Walmart yesterday and they are completely worthless. How they could be used as diapers is beyond me. Where and what should I be buying to use as burp cloths. I hate to spend the money, but I'm guessing we'll be needing burp cloths for a long time yet.

We use the Gerber cloth diapers. I love them. They are thick and soft. The babies don't really spit up much, but that's what we use when they do - and they love to play with them. We have some Gerber burp cloths that are just cloth diapers with designs on them. I've also been known to use receiving blankets. We have like 20-30 of those, and it's way too many, so I try to find creative uses. :)

The ones I got are so thin I can see through them. I folded them in thirds and the spit up still soaked through. I thought the weave would tighten up if I washed and dried them a few more times, but no luck.

I also use the Gerber cloth diapers. But I use the ones that have the thick part in the middle. (I can't remember what they're called.) You have to wash them a few times before they work really well, but we love them.

We had good luck with the Gerber cloth diapers--I'm sorry they haven't worked for you. Our boys are big time spitters. We have also used hand towels. I bought a bunch of relatively inexpensive ones at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They are very absorbent; but the spit up does soak through (which we haven't had happen with the Gerber ones). So they are only really good for one use if there is massive spittage. I like them because they are large and I can cover my lap with them as well.

Be sure you are using these and not these. The pre-folded ones are thicker in the middle and way more absorbent. The flat ones are paper thin and have to be folded a million times. Good luck!

We've also had good luck with the diaper burp clothes from Gerber. Did you buy the white thin ones...the flat folds like THESE? That might be why. HERE is what I mean. The ones in the second link work really well. HTH :) .

Aha! I think that is the problem. I'll try getting the right ones now. Thanks.

Make sure you get the ones that say double fold. They are the ones I use. I have to say I love cloth diapers. Once they are done using them, then you can use them for dust rags, wash cloths, etc.

Yeah, it's some kind of fold or something. They are really thick and absorbent.

I used hand towels - Kohl's had a big sale and I stocked up. I've also used the receiving blankets - since I couldn't find any other use for them once I was done with them. Good Luck!

I have both types of Gerber diapers. The prefolded one with the thick middle work much better. I too have used the old receiving blankets.

Oh! You got the wrong kind!! I believe the kind you want are the prefolds, but I could be wrong- let me check...

Well, I couldn't find them, but it sounds like you have the gauze kind. You do NOT want that kind. There is another kind that is cloth and very thick.

There is anotherr kind of Gerber cloth diaper that you might find you like better... the center is very thick!! I had the same problem, I bought the wrong ones at first and thought they were weird. I also don't know how they could be used for diapers!! I don't know exactly what they are called, but they work wonderfully!!

I use "Kushies" brand burp cloths. I'm not sure if they have these in the US, but here in Canada I buy them at Walmart and BabiesRus in a two pack. I find them very useful and I keep buying them everytime I go to the store.

I have some cloth diapers and I find them too thin.

With Sean I bought a pkg of burp cloths/cloth diapers at WM and those worked fine for minor spits. But I also used receiving blankets when needed. I go to a ton of garage sales and will pick up cute but ok type receiving blankets for like .25 and use those for those days or for when we will be out so I konw its big and thick.
I would sometimes cut them in half.
With Josh and Abbi I used the same cloths that I bought from WM for Sean.
Now because I know we will be ttc again this fall, I have been seeing them at garage sales, the nice thick cute ones, for .25 or less and most are in brand new condition.

I have lots of the pre-folds and I find I use them for inside carseats, on a change table, in a swing, etc. I find I use the dollar store receiving blankets which are smaller than an average receiving blanket are the BEST. They are thick but not too long since I find the long ones are frustrating. Good luck.

I also have a spitter, he has been since day one. We just used whatever we could, burp clothes, receiving blankets, regular blankets, diapers, etc. I also went to garage sales and just picked up a ton of receiving blankets so we mostly use those, and yes we do fold them, but usually they work pretty good and because they were so cheap I have a ton of them.
