Mattie LOVES LOVES LOVES to watch me and help me cook in the kitchen. She has always been so good about not touching anything that I tell her not too. Last night right before bed, I was making white chocolate covered peanut butter cracker and she reached out and touched the double burner. :shok: Of course I immediately yelled and she started crying. We ran to the sink and turned on the cold water, but my FIL also told me to put A-1 steak sauce on it and it helped. Who knew??
It may not have been much of a burn anyway, I think my reaction caused most of the crying.

Yikes! Glad she's okay! :) Jackson got a pretty nasty-looking burn on his finger from touching a light bulb in the fridge last week (who knew that could happen?!). We did lots of cold water rinsing, and then covered it with an ointment and band-aid. The steak sauce thing is interesting, for sure.

Ouch, Brandy, I know it scared you to death!! I have never heard of A-1..that's interesting. My mom always kept an aloe vera plant on hand for burns.

Mustard. My C was burned by the pizza recently when we were out. The waitress saw what happened and brought over a thing of mustard because it is suppose to help numb the area???? Anyways C wouldn't let us put the mustard on her spot because she doesn't like mustard (I am dealing with the mind of a 3 year old).

Oooh, what a fun question   Although I'm sorry she had to get burned to get to this  How fun to hear burn remedies! I, too, have an aloe vera plant to rub on the burn. I think it heals faster, but I don't know about taking the pain away quickly. :pardon: Interesting...anybody care to test these theories?

Just FYI - Don't do cold water! I know it is a reactionary thing, but cold water will actually make it blister. Do luke warm water instead.

I have never heard of A-1 either. That is interesting. Hope she is doing OK this morning.

Martin did that! Laid his WHOLE hand on the thing - "IS THIS HOT?"

Laura, thanks for the tip about the cold water! Great to have a nurse in the house ;) :D

One of my boys stuck his hand inside the tire of the car right after we got home and it blistered up almost immediately on the tops of 3 of his fingers! We were also told not to do cold water or ice, but the warm water as previously suggested. Then we had to keep bandaids and neosporin on it until it healed, replacing them after every hand wash, to avoid infection. One of the things that they told us to watch out for was "shock" symptoms. It was a pain while it lasted, but it never got infected and he doesn't have any scars.

I never heard of A1 or mustard, but I will keep that in mind for minor burns. My mom always had an aloe vera plant at the house and I remember that soothing burns as a child.

Here in Mexico the folk wisdom is not to use water (of any temp) as it will make it blister--plain white toothpaste is usually the first first aid remedy for burns around here.

I like to use diluted essential oil of lanvander myself.
