I haven't had bumpers in the crib yet since, well they weren't rolling or mobile at all. Well now Maya is starting to roll and getting limbs stuck in the rail slats. I was thinking about getting bumpers to kinda prevent that now, But still tossing around the ideas of regular or breathable. I know lot of people here have both kinds. Is one easier to change the sheets?

Too, since they are 7.5 months old how long would i expect to use the bumpers now that they are older, are they worth the money??

I had taken the bumpers out of our crib by the time they were around 10 months. As soon as they could pull themselves up, they were just standing on them all the time & squishing them down, so I took them out. I don't know that I would bother at this point. :pardon:

I used the breathable bumpers until my girls could easily maneuver themselves throughout their cribs on their own, and then I switched to the regular ones. I had the regular ones from the crib set that I had, and they were cuter which is why I switched. I wouldn't have gone out and bought new ones though.

I found that changing crib sheets is a PITA with bumpers regardless of what kind they are. I left the bumpers in my girls beds until we switched to toddler beds at 21 months.

Mine started yanking on them to pull up around 8 months so I wouldn't bother.

I used them until they were out of the crib at 22 months. They worked well for preventing stuck limbs, and lost pacis! I had both, and didn't really care for the breathable type, so used the regular. The sheets are a pain to change with bumpers.

I also left mine in with my older kids until I switched the crib to a toddler bed around 18-22 months, same as Becky to prevent stuck limbs and lost paci's.

I haven't tried the breathable but plan on getting them when we move the babies to seperate cribs, only because I only have one bumper pad and need a second one for liam anyways! :p Otherwise I don't mind my regular ones.

I have the breatheable kind and they are super easy to keep on and change the sheets. Infact, they are velcroed on so tight that they do not move around when I change the sheets. I orginally did not want to use bumpers and then Jonathan got stuck. It scared DH so much that I thought he was going to rip the slates off the crib to get him out. I really like the breatheable. They are not cute at all, but they are worth it!

We use regular bumpers (have had them in the cribs from the beginning). We have had no problems with them. When I took them out of DD's crib a couple of months ago she got her arm stuck during the first nap. The bumpers went right back in.

For those of you who take the bumpers out once the babies start pulling up, did you just deal with the lost paci issue and the limbs stuck between slats? Do these issues become less common as the babies get older? Do their arms and feet get big enough that they usually don't stick them between the slats?

In our health Region we don't recommend the use of bumpers at all due to the increase risk of sids. I am not sure if that is the same in the U.S. ?

My 2 didn't have paci's, so that wasn't an issue. And I don't know about the stuck limbs.... I don't remember either of them ever getting an arm or a leg stuck. :pardon:

We didn't have pacis but I would say as they've gotten bigger the stuck limbs have become few and far between:)

They recommend not to use them here in the US as well however in my opinion if you don't know the cause of SIDS you can't really tell me what increases/decreases the chance of it. Just my opinion though. Although, I didn't put the bumpers in until they could roll over good bc it scared me:)
