I just read an article yesterday about not putting bumper pads on cribs as it may be one of the causes for SIDS. I had a friend whose baby died of SIDS so it really is a concern for me. I was wondering if anyone else uses bumper pads. I did with my other three children...but don't want to take a chance with these two since they were so sick in the beginning. I took them off last night and they didn't seem to mind...arms were sticking out this morning...but no complaining. Plus, Charlie likes to push her face into the bumper pad while she sleeps which also concerns me.

    Thanks!

I have never used them. I do have these airflow covers that work the same way as bumperpads but is like a cotton mesh. It stops them from putting arms/legs through the bars and if they get their faces mushed into it, they can still breathe. I haven't put mine in yet as mine still sleep like little logs and don't move hardly an inch. I was worried about bumperpads and sids too so I decided against them.

We took ours out pretty early, my girls liked to be right up against them. Now we have these breathable bumpers since my girls would get mad when their arms would get stuck

I used bumper pads with my older 3 and never had a problem, but since the twins were born so early and the risk is higher I bought the mesh ones and it's been great! It also cuts down on losing the paci if you use them. [IMG]

I have a friend who was told the same thing and she shared it with me while I was still pregnant. I ended up returning the ones I was given and decided against using them. I personally felt I didn't need to worry about just one more thing.

I have heard of a mesh that you can keep all their little limbs in with and they can breathe through it. Sounds like a great solution!

We took our pads off while our boys were still in the NICU. We had to take special classes to be able to take them home, and in one of the classes they specifically said to have absolutely nothing in the crib (that includes bumpers). We finally just put them on because the boys were starting to ram their heads up against the sides of the cribs in their sleep, and let me tell you, it is soooooo much harder to change sheets in the middle of the night (or anytime for that matter) with the pads on. I can't wait until we get into toddler beds because it's such a pain in the butt. HTH!

We also use the breathable bumpers (bought at BRU) and they are a LIFESAVER! Before them, my ds would cry in the middle of the night when his arms & legs got stuck. Now, it never happens.
