We went to a party this weekend and the babies got to try the BUMBO out. They looked so cute sitting up. ~~ Tell me what you think about BUMBOS. I feel like this is a pretty big investment and want to get your opinions.
We have a bumbo that we bought for $20 at a Mothers of Multiples-type sale. I would check some garage sales, maybe Craig's list. If you're buying at full price, I would just buy one of them and see how your babies like the seat before investing in another one. We got the most use out of ours up until around 5 months, and then from that point on, my babies preferred the exersaucer, since it's got the fun toys. The cool thing about the bumbo is that it's pretty compact, cleans up great, and is easy to carry around the house (unlike a bouncy seat).
I am wondering the same thing and want to know if at 4 months it would be worth it to buy them now. I am going to to see what kind of prices I can find on ebay.
my girls love theirs. They really didn't use them all that much until aboaut 4-5 months. They are great little seats and are also great in the baby pool...
I liked mine, but when the boys outgrew them (ie could climb out) we had to put them aside. They only used them for maybe 3 months. But depending on how thick their legs are they make great travel "highchairs". Just make sure to keep them on the floor, it's just not safe to have babies up high.
I think they're great but we got ours as presents though! My boys are 3 months old and we place them in their bumbos when DH and I have dinner. It's also a great way to take photos of the babies.

They looked so cute sitting up. ~~ Tell me what you think about BUMBOS. I feel like this is a pretty big investment and want to get your opinions. We purchase one to see how it would be. We bought it at BJ's wholesale club. Our son(twin)was about 3-4 months and I put him in it and watched him for a while then I went to get something out of the kitchen which was about 12 feet from him turned around and he was on the floor! He wasn't hurt thank goodness but I didn't put him back in it for quite a while. It's nice to use when feeding. Sometimes we would put one of them in it on the table and sit in front of them and feed them baby cereal(obviously never leave them alone in it). It actually gets more use now. Even with my older son. He sits in it on the floor when he gets to watch Little Einsteins in the morning. I have my playgroup over and they fight over who gets to sit in it. We never bought a second one though. One seemed to be enough for us.
One of my daughters likes to arch her back, so she was actually lent one from our local Infant Development Therapist. She recommended it to help my daughter stretch out her neck muscles by encouraging her to look down. We noticed her strength really increased with its use. Then we were given a 2nd one as a gift. I put both girls in them while I eat breakfast. I also have the trays and they enjoy banging toys on the trays. I spend a lot of time picking up dropped toys, but I get 2 free hands to eat breakfast. I have noticed they seem to have decent resale value so if you can buy used and then turn around and sell them when you're done, they might end up not costing as much as you think.

It would make it possible for one of us to watch both babies while the other one swims with our oldest. Plus the babies could feel the water on their feet (our pool has a kiddie pool that's extremely shallow at one end, like 2 inches or something).
I think I would get just one to start out with. My boys never really liked to sit in them. THey would rather roll around on the floor. I did find them to be very useful around months 5-7. I put the bumbos by the garage door and when I went to put one baby in the car, the other was in the bumbo. Or sometimes I put them in the bumbos and put their coats on. I think around month 7 they arched their way out of them. Also around month 5-7 I fed them in there if we went out of town or if I went to my moms.
My babies never really liked theres. My DD was always leaning out the sides and trying to get out. DS won't stay in one long enough. I only bought one and will probably get rid of it someday soon. For my babies, it wasn't worth the investment.
I used a Bumbo chair with my daughter and I loved it. I am definately getting another one with the twins. They are a little pricey but well worth it I thought.
We just started using ours last week (gifts). The twins are 3 months and they love them! I like that it makes another "station" to rotate them to during their awake time (activity gym, bouncy, etc), and I do plan to use them at the table to "join the family" and in the pool. I think they're great. When I arrived at the church nursery last Sunday, I found out someone had just donated one. Perfect! Sure enough, Ethan was in it having a blast when I picked him up. And yeah, my older boys love to sit on them also! Plus daddy so ingeniously showed Caleb how to wear it as a gladiator helmet. Funny, as long as he doesn't try to dump a twin out to do that!
We used them from 3.5 months until about 8 months. They are great for feeding as well as sitting up playing.
I got one around 5 months to try out and Ashley liked it for a short while but Chloe would arch her back and want to get out. Used it very minimally and I actually sold it last month, so we hardly used it for 2 months.
My guys honestly only used them probably 5-10 times. They would much rather be on the floor playing and when it came to feeding we moved them to the highchairs pretty quick. They were not worth the money for the amount of use that was given to them.
We bought 2..I thought they were expensvie & wondered if we'd use them. Turns out we use them alot! They're great & we love them. The babies will sit in them for 10 or so mins at a time - I'd say make the investment because you can always turn around and resell them. We use ours everyday and have since the babies were 3 mths, they are 4 mths now. We are going to the beach next week and I plan on taking them with us - its just another option for the babies..different from the bouncey, swing & floor.
I love them!!! My guys really like them. They are at the point where they can't quite sit on their own but they do not like laying in a bouncy. So the bumbo works great. Try a consignment shop or eBay, they might be cheaper there. Plus they make a tray for the Bumbo that is fun!
I just took ours out this weekend to see if the ladies liked it. We got one as a shower gift. They are 4 months old today (2 1/2 months adjusted) and until now they didn't have the head control to use it. They seem to like the new vantage point, but to me it doesn't look like they are very comfy. I only put them in for a couple of minutes at a time. If they both seem to like it, I may get another from craigslist. If you have any friends who have one, see if you can try it out before you buy because they are pricey for what it is. Good luck, Leighann
I loved ours and the girls did, too. It was sad when they were too big for it because it was the perfect height for them to sit and play...plus, they have trays now! They will still try and get into them at the daycare in the mornings.
I had gotten an awesome deal on 2 of them. Got them both for $30, less than the cost of one. I was going to get the bebe pod from walmart with the tray. Anyway I use them for feeding mostly, they fuss after awhile. They both have flat head and the neck issue (torticollis) so Im sure its helpful to strengthen them up. I have to mention it tomorrow at their p/t appt. Anyway, I guess it depends on the baby and their moods whether they like them or not. Worth a try if you havent already.
Mine enjoyed them for a while. Now they know how to get out of them. My 2yo niece and nephew enjoy them so we're going to hold onto them for awhile to see if they make a comeback.
I got lucky and got both of mine free from friends with babies who outgrew them. They started at 4 months. One of them never really liked it, the other one will sit in it for 10-15 minutes if you put a little table with a toy on it in front of her. They don't like them enough for me to have purchased them. Ask around if you have any friends who have 10-18 month olds. Chances are they are ready to unload them, or would sell them cheap. Try consignment stores or garage sales too. I don't think you should buy 2 at full price, especially if they don't like them.
One person mentioned that their baby was given one by a developmental therapist--keep in mind that that was the reason they were invented--for children who are developmentally ready for sitting, but can't do it physically. A "typical" child really doesn't need that support, and it will keep them from developing muscle groups in the "correct" order. For example, if you have preemies, you are told not to use an execauser until they can sit on their own. If you do, they will tend to build up leg muscles before abdominals, and the abdominals will remain weak. The bumbo is similar. Babies that are younger than 6 months, really should be rolling around on the floor--they are not really ready to sit without head support--and especially not before 3 months old. Personally, I would skip the bumbo, and just let them be babies and roll around.
