    Hey ladies,

First, excuse the typos - I am holding babies and just had a glass of wine!!!

I was thinking of buying a Bumbo. Is it worth it? Just wondering. They look cool. I was going to buy one at first to see if both babies like it, but I was wondering if I should even get one! Let me know your opinion!

SOOOOOOO worth it!! I wish I'd gotten it sooner! I carry it around the house and plop Wesley in it whenever I need to get something done (as he isn't happy unless I'm in his line of sight). And it's great for feeding, too! Whoo Hoo, Bumbo!

It is definitely worth it! One, it helps them with the sitting skills. Better yet, it's a place you can quickly put a twin without wrestling with buckles, etc.
We bought a Bumbo and our twins liked it so much we got a second one, but this time we got whatever the other brand is just for variety. They loved sitting in theirs and sitting next to each other or facing each other.

Once they get stronger, though, watch out. Our son started being able to flip himself out of his, but that was quite some time later.

I never had one, and mine did just fine without it. They both sat at around 6 months. Personally, I think kids at 4 months need to be on the floor rather than trying to sit.

It's nice to have one as a place to set down a baby without the buckles. They like being in them too.

Definitely worth it! We only purchased one bouncy seat and one swing. Neither baby liked them.... they love the bumbos!

We love bumbos at our house! My girls still are using them. They love to sit in them on the counter while I'm cooking dinner...I say definitely worth it, TWO of them!

I only had one with the first set,but I think I'm getting a second one for this set. It's nice to have a place to plop them down for a few minutes without fussing with buckling them in. Also, they are great for feeding. I took it with me whenever we went to someone's house and it made feeding time so much easier than trying to hold a baby and feed solids at the same time. I LOVE the Bumbo seats!!!

Love ours! If your babies have chubby legs you may want to look at the bebe pods instead. We have one of each and the chubbier of the 2 doesnt fit in the bumbo anymore

I guess I'm in the minority here. I bought one and neither of my twins liked it. They were always trying to climb out. With that said, I find I'm using it now when I need one of them to sit somewhere and not try to roll/crawl around the room. For example, if I'm doing my hair, I'll put it on the dressing table in front of me and stick the cranky baby in it. Then said cranky baby goes through all my stuff and throws it all on the floor. [IMG] hee heee... But honestly, it has hardly been used, maybe a total of 10 or 15 times since we bought it last summer.

We have one and we don't use it much yet because they don't quite have the head control though they are getting close. However I have used it to take pictures of them, and for that it's great. I can sit them up right and put a sheet behind them for a solid back ground and the pictures look like studio pictures - (well, close!)... I think they look great anyway. So I'm very happy I have it for that. But right now my babies can't take more than a few minutes in it before getting fussy.

We loved ours. We did not use them with the intention that the Bumbos would help them sit up sooner (I am not sure if that is what Sharon is insinuating or not). But we used them to:

    1) Feed solids at grandma and grandpas house.
    2) Sit with us at the dinner table (out at restaurants or at friend's houses, seeing as how we were out of the carriers at 4.5 months).
    3) Go grocery shopping (one in the cart seat, one in the Bumbo in the basket).

Those things alone made them incredibly worthwhile!!!

I LOVE our bumbos. I have used them so much from 3 months until now. We use them for watching baby einstein (the only way I even got a shower today!) and eating, we used to use them just to get the girls to sit up and get a different perspective (now they can on there own). They are worth it for us.

I'm not sure. I personally never purchased one. Thought about it but never bothered. Both babies sit independently, have been since about 6 months and are no worse for wear without it [IMG]

I used bouncy chairs when they were smaller (before they learned to houdini out of them) and they seemed to like those just fine, and they are way cheaper if you're worried about price (here, they run about $50-60 each)

One other thing I forgot to mention...check ebay for them...you can get them new or used and its usually cheaper than buying in the store

    HI,

I like them and the boys tolerate them. I also suggest getting the trays from Target that go on the chairs. It helps keep toys up at hand level for the babies. Just go to Target and type in "bumbo tray"

Haven't read pp, I'd buy them used. They are nice, but for the amount we paid for two new, it wasn't THAT worth it, IMO. In fact, I have two practically brand new (Turquoise) $15/each plus shipping and they are yours if you want them!

Do you have a friend who has one so you can try your babies in them? I have a few friends whose babies didn't like them at all so they have suggested that I try the girls in one first before going out and buying one (or two).

Kate, those are good reasons for them.

I don't want to upset anyone here, but when I look at something like that, I look at the why it was designed. They were designed by PT's and OT's to help children with disabilities like CP to sit when they were at an age where they should be sitting but couldn't. They weren't disigned to put "typical" chilren in a sitting position at 4 months old. When they are that young they should be reclined--maybe vertical in an exersaucer for short periods of time, or simply allowed to lay on the floor to learn to move.

I never owned a bumbo. I did have a fisher price bouncer seat, to put the boys when I needed to "do" something which is sounds like what most are using their bumbo's for. As far as for sitting up skills we did it the old fashioned way I used either the boppy behind them or the throw pillows off the couch and lots and lots of practice. I always thought the bumbo's were for kids who couldn't sit up for lack of muscle tone and it wasn't until my boys were past that stage before I realized people just bought them for other reasons. My guys were both preemies and one has mild CP and they both learned to sit up just fine. So if you are worried about buying them because of the expense you probably can manage through infancy without one. [IMG]

I saw a previous poster mention sitting them in the bumbo's on the counter while she cooks, is this safe? I saw others mention they don't have buckles and that they can flip out of them when getting bigger personally if I had one I would limit them to sitting in bumbo on the floor where a fall from it may not injure them.

If you get one, I'd start out with one. Neither of my boys like it and both were able to flip out of it early on and fall, so we very rarely use it.

We were also told this by a PT. They are not using their abdominal muscels when they sit in these chairs. However, like everything, a little amount of time in the chair cant hurt. As long as they are not spending so much time in them. I did register for them for my shower though so i do own 2. i rarely use them. i prefer feeding in the highchair. i think it is more comfortable for them. Every couple days i will put them in there for a change of atmosphere.

I might be the only one, but NOPE, not worth the money. If you can borrow one, then okay, but I would not spend $40 or $80 on two bumbos. My girls liked them, but they quickly learned to arch their backs and could easily pop themselves out of the bumbo chair- and this was before they could even get themselves up on all fours.
Not worth the small amount of time that they might be able to use them.

I used a bumbo and it was great for the first few times they sat in it but after that they hated it. I think it made them feel restrained. My ds suddenly flipped himself out of it one day with no warning. He was 6 months old when he did this.

This was my concern. No, on the counter is not safe IMO. My ds would have really hurt himself if he was on the counter when he flipped himself out. He hit his head on the floor as it was.

I understand that concern too. My PT actually recommended my dd sit in one at small intervals despite sitting very well on her own at 6 months. she has low muscle tone in her trunk and he thought it may help encourage her muscle development.

Not worth is for me either. We never bought any, but tried one out in baby class once. I didn't see the point. They'll sit up on their own in their own time.
