Hi ladies! Hope you all had wonderful weekend. We have been out to parks a lot. And yesterday and today, Nolan got so many bug bites. There are 2 horrible bites in his hands. They are swollen up huge. The one from yesterday is about half of a golf ball. It even makes his hand looks so weird. However, I have been asking him if it hurts in many different ways. He always says "NO". I have been outing bennyzel cream on those bites. The swollen hasn't gotten better. But other than that, it doesn't bother him. He doesn't have any sick symptom at all. I will call his doctor office tomorrow. I am not worried too much. Just wondering if he is allergic to any kind of bug bites. And I think those are mosquito bites. Last month, he got 1 mosquito bite on his forehead. And it got swollen up for 2 weeks. Everybody thought he fell and hit his head. Any of your kiddos has this problem? Is it normal for some kids? Should I be worried? TIA!

This is totally normal. All bug bites are essentially a small allergic reaction to the mosquito's saliva. The first summer that children get bit they usually don't react at all. Then the body has time to develop a reaction, and the next season that they get bit they overreact. This is usually when they are in the 2-4 year old age range. Using an anti-itch cream helps if it bothers them, otherwise just letting it go and the swelling will go down in a few days.

Both Alice and Royce have reactions like that to mosquito bites, plus this season we've had occasional fevers and blisters. We do hydrocortisone cream and daily Claritin or Zyrtek, whichever we have on hand, plus if we need to, we can get a Rx from our pediatrician for prednisone.

This. I think it also depends on how sensitive your kids skin is. My twin son reacts worse than my twin daughter does, but he also has lighter skin more prone to sunburn than she does.

Thank you ladies. Today his swelling got down alot. I called his doc office. And the nurse told me just use bennezyl oil and keep an eye on him. He is fine now

The funny thing is his skin color is way darker than his sis. His sis is whiter and got sun brunt very easy, he is not. However, he seems to attract Mosquitos more than she does. We were all outside. His sis got 2 bites. They were just tiny red spots. Didn't bother her at all. He got omg like 6-7. and he got huge reaction. I guess i need to stock some bug sprays. Thank you!
