So I have read we need to start "brushing teeth" as soon as they come in. Just curious how many of you did this and how did you do it? One of my DS got his two bottom teeth a couple of weeks ago, and i dont' know if I need to go ahead and start or how to even do it.....

    Anyone's experience is appreciated.

When my two got their first teeth, I just wiped their gums and two teeth with a wet washcloth. Once they got more teeth (around 5 or 6), I started with the Oral B stage 1 toothbrushes and baby toothpaste, I think that was around 10 months when we started using the toothbrush and paste regularly.

Ryan go his teeth first. He got like 3 in 2 days so we started brushing both their "teeth" then. I used the same things Nancy mentioned. I started by showing them how I brushed my teeth then let them play with their toothbrushes in their mouth. I sang the Raffi song, "Brush Your Teeth" (I'm sure it's on YouTube) and when I was done singing it was my turn to clean their teeth. That's how we've done it for the past 1.5 years and the only time they fight me on brushing teeth is when a new tooth is just popping in.

My girls are about to turn 1, but neither got a first tooth until they were 10.5 months. They each have their two front bottom teeth, but none on top yet. I do not brush their teeth yet. I am also curious to see advice/answers from others. I'm not sure if I need to brush them or not.

    :woohoo:

We started letting them brush with water before they had teeth coming in to let them get used to doing it. Once they got teeth, we used the Organic Tom's starter toothpaste (no flouride) to get them used to the taste.

We always wiped their gums before teeth and our Ped said he recommends once they get 6+ to start brushing with a brush so thats what we did:)

Thanks everyone! I think my other DS is teething right now. I think I might wait until his two come in and then go ahead and start w/ brushing.
