Brushing Teeth

My sons hate to have their teeth brushed. It is an ongoing struggle with them. They scream and fight me every time I try. Outside of holding them down and prying open their mouths I can't get it done. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how make it a better/easier experience?

 

I started using a battery operated tooth brush and they now think it's funny when I brush their teeth.

 

you could try maybe giving them teh toothbrushes and letting them try themselves. and if you brush YOUR teeth while they watch, they may want to do the same. good luck!

 

It's a constant fight here too, but I still try to do it everyday. They at least now know it's part of their routine and walk willingly to the bathroom. Some days they barely open their mouths and others they let me do a pretty decent job.

My dentist gave me the idea to give them my toothbrush and let them brush my teeth, while I brush theirs. They'd be too distracted to care that I was brushing theirs. I thought it sounded like a good idea, but it didn't work for me though!

My sons hated brushing too. Giving them a sticker as a reward worked wonders. We got a bunch of different stickers and they could each choose one to put in their sticker notebook after they brushed their teeth.

 

I let them use the electric tooth brush, or give them something to play with. Because we brush after breakfast and at night, I usually let them "brush" for a bit, then go over the teeth myself. DS loves brushing, DD not so much. They get used to it eventually. Sometimes it's a battle.
