what age is it okay to brush the little teeth with toothpaste? I've seen some infant/baby toothpaste at Walmart the other day made by Gerber and wasn't sure at what age this should be started at? My LO's have 6 teeth, so I'm just wiping their teeth off with a cloth during the day but using a toothbrush at night (no paste though). When is it safe to start with the paste?

I started using the "Baby Orajel" toothpaste as soon as they got their first teeth (they came in 2 at a time) and the soft toothbrush that you put on your finger.
Then by 1, I got the regular step 1 toothbrush.
By age 2 I started using the kids toothpaste, but mine are good at following directions and would spit and rinse.
By age 4 I started using regular paste for them.
OH and I am anal with teeth, so I still brush their teeth (they are 5)

At 6 months I began using a wash cloth to wipe their teeth. At 11 months, I began brushing their teeth with Baby Orajel toothpaste. HTH :).

8 months for wiping with cloth (when A got her first tooth), 12 months for tooth brush (when M got her first tooth) and a little after 12 months with tooth paste for fun.

I used one of those finger brushes until I got tired of them biting my finger! I recently bought them stage 1 toothbrushes and I brush their teeth with just water. I am not going to use toothpaste anytime soon, it shouldnt be swallowed.

I started with a toothbrush and training toothpaste at 12 months old. Now I say "who wants to brush-a brush-a brush-a" and they walk into the bathroom and open their mouths.

There is training toothpaste doesn't contain flouride so its ok to be swallowed.

We used the fluoride free baby toothpaste once they had lots of teeth. Last night was the first night we used the Oral-B regular toothpaste as they are now 2.

Here's a link to pediatric dentist topics that includes info on toothpaste selection for kids. They mention choosing a non-flouride paste if your child is likely to swallow it instead of spitting it out. . . and also to use a very small amount.
