Don't quite know where to post this...

I am 26 weeks now, and I found out the other day that my mom broke a compact fluorescent bulb at our house while she was "helping" me clean.. she vaccuumed it into our central vac right away, because she didn't know they contain a small amount of mercury. I was home at the time, but I was upstairs in a well ventilated area because my dad was doing a bit of painting.

When I did find out, my mom did a more thorough clean up, and ventilated the area a little better. I knew I hadn't been in the basement where it broke.. but I am still worried about exposure..

Anyone else out the broke one of those stupid bulbs? I need some reassurance that everything is probably going to be fine.

Jen, I have no information on any of this but if you are that worried about it, I would call your doctor and see what they say. It'll put your fears to rest. I don't think it will do much of anything to you since it probably didn't contain alot of mercury, like you said, you weren't there when it happened and you are further along, so you should be okay, but give your doctor a call.

Thank you for your concern! I did call my OB today and she was quite reassuring.. and told me to stop reading the internet because it's too scary  . Being pregnant and having all these things to worry about is too much sometimes!

When my husband was home with the twins, one broke in their room (i was out ) and I freaked out about how he cleaned it up. I called the pedi who thought i was loony :) - but I totally understand where you are coming from and I'm glad your OB was reassuring.

My peri told me to stop reading the internet while i was pregnant, i drove her batty with my bi-weekly questions.

Yes, reading the internet can definitely scare you more than help you. I'm glad you called your OB and she reassured you everything is okay. :good:
