    Here's the story.

I started off with my family doctor, saw him once at 12 weeks, switched to a midwife at 14 weeks, and found out I was having twins. I will be seeing an OB in addition to my midwife, but have not seen my family doctor again because he is basically a moron.

Anyway, the hospital sent the results of my 18 weeks ultrasound to my family doctor for some reason and he called me, at home, on Saturday morning, to express his concern that I switched to a midwife. Keep in mind that I switched doctors 6 weeks ago. He said that the ultrasound showed that the twins are both footling breech and that I should be seeing an obstetrician since I will need a C-section.

Now, I could be wrong, but isn't it a little early to jump to those kinds of conclusions? I am really hoping for a natural delivery and so far have had no complications. During the ultrasound alone, the babies moved from being both head up by my belly button to both heads on my left side. I'm sure there is still time for them to move, right? Anyone have experience with this?

18 weeks is early to be concerned about positioning of the babies. They could & probably will change position several times between now & delivery time.

In my situation, the babies never moved from 15-38 weeks. They must have been quite comfy where they were.

I am 36 weeks and twin A just flipped breech 4 days ago. My two would turn after every ultrasound and have been in every position possible!! I too was planning on a natural delivery, but at this late stage I have resigned myself to a C-section. It is WAY too early to say what they will do at birth!

i agree that it is very early to be that confident that you'll need a c-birth due to babies positioning. is this OB one that your midwife usually does shared care with? it sounds to me like he's more concerned about the midwife side of things, in which case you may want to do some more shopping around before deciding on an OB.

    Thanks ladies.

This is my family doctor who I am no longer seeing for my pregnancy. I switched to a midwife, which he does not seem happy with, and have been referred to an OB who I will meet in 2 weeks-ish.

sorry, i totally missed that in your OP - i thought it was the OB who said that. anyway, i definitely wouldn't worry about it! i would wait & see how things go with the OB. we had the option of doing shared care when i was pregnant with the girls but we didn't, mostly for financial reasons. looking back, it would have been worth it. GL!

My twins have never been in the same position for any of their ultrasounds. Only this past week (week 26) have they been both head down. I have ultrasounds at the Peri's office every other week. I think it seems way too early to determine what position the babies will be in for delivery. They still have plenty of room to move, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope you get your vaginal delivery. I had both head down and ended up with a c-section anyway. Hope you have better luck. Hope you like your OB

In regard to the mid-wife, I was always told that since there can be a lot of delivery complications when multiples are involved that you should stick to an OB/GYN AND a Perinatologist.

As for the breech positions, mine boys would go in and out of breech position through most of my 2nd and 3rd trimester. I delivered via c-section with one breech.

Good luck with whatever birthing method you choose but if nothing else, I would at least have an OB on standby.

shared care usually means that you see an OB and a midwife throughout your pregnancy. usually, you deliver at the hospital with the midwife as your primary caregiver but if there are complications, the OB is there to consult, or if a c-birth is necessary, to take over. honestly though, short of surgery & instrument assisted deliveries, there isn't anything a certified midwife can't do that an OB can.

Exactly. I am seeing a midwife, who has referred me to an OB. My OB (who I will meet soon) may agree to do shared care with my midwife, in which case I get both the awesome support and care of my midwife as well as the expertise and technological advantages of an OB, or if necessary, I will be transferred into the OB's care, and he will become my primary caregiver. Either way, I will be delivering at the hospital with the OB present, and if he hasn't already, he will likely take over as my primary caregiver by the time I give birth.
