Is anyone else having breathing problems. I know that one of my twins is up under my ribs. Last night I was laying in bed and my heart started beating really fast and I couldn't breath very well. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I am going to saying something to my doctor on Tuesday.

Im surprised this did not start earlier for you. I have had this problem for many weeks. Your simply running out of room, plus your ribs expand and push on your diaphram which makes it difficult to breath. Plus hormones make it even harder. I go through this every evening and it gets worse when I try to sleep. Just keep looking for a possition that opens up your chest so you can breath easier. Otherwise, there really isn't anything you can do till the babies drop. Which should happen soon for you. Good luck!

Also, if your heart is pounding it may be because your on your back and you may be cutting off oxygen to yourself, which in turn will cut off oxygen to babies. This is why we are not supposed to lie on our backs after 26 weeks. Try to stay on your side, or prop yourself up like in a Recliner.

My nonpresent baby has her feet lodged in my right ribs and makes breathing very difficult sometimes too. When I am lying down on my left side I throw my right arm over my head and that seems to stretch everything out and make it a little easier to breath.... sometimes. :)

Count me in, I started noticing it about 33 weeks, I think I managed to hold off for so long b/c I have a very long torso, but still they found their way up to my lungs. I also notice it's worse if I lean back in a chair (like a recliner), I think it has to do with what a pp mentioned, cutting off the circulation by laying on your back.

I noticed this around 22 weeks or so, so you are lucky you are just now noticing it. But it's normal.

It started happeneing to me about a week ago at 26 weeks. It's worse when I am working or sitting or when the humidity is high. Strangely if I soak in a bathtub it moves the babies around and I can get a full breath.Sometimes I panic cause I can't get a good breath and then I have an anxiety attack and really can't breath.

I have the same thing going on, and have also noticed that a bath helps immensely!

I have it come and go for me, nothing too bad. I do notice at times when I first lay down my heartbeat is extremely strong, it goes away after a little while. Like pp said if I lay on m,y back, forget breathing!

I've been struggling with this for awhile, at least 4-6 weeks. I'm in and out of my car all day for work and live in a very hot and humid climate so I think that has been a huge factor. My heart often races so fast that it scares me (usually when I'm standing). When it happens, I feel like I can't breathe well and I always feel like I'm going to pass out. Sorry you're going through this. Take care!

I think it has been at least four weeks or so that I have had this problem. Baby B thinks mommies ribs were put there just for her. I can tell when the babies move up or down because sometimes I can breath fine and other times I have problems. I hate it when I am talking to someone and I start gasping.

I had this problem starting very early as well. It's funny, because on the video DH took of my c-section, while the doc is pulling baby B out, you can hear me say, "I can breath!"

I have this problem a lot. Even when trying to roll over. I have a hard time breathing after. My husband noticed the other night. I apparently woke him up. I rolled over on to my right side in my sleep and he said I was out of breath. It wouldn't have bothered him, but I was apparently breathing in his ear and he informed me that he felt like he was sleeping with Darth Vader. He found this very amusing.

I've been having this problem for the past 3 weeks or so with progressive shortness of breath. I walk alot for my job, in and out of hospitals, my car, my office and a couple of blocks to another building. This past Friday I had it so bad I couldn't walk or talk without gasping for air. I was sent to the ER and the diagnosed me with pneumonia. But my OB thinks it's a combination of things. Twins take up more room (and I'm short, 4'11"), they need more oxygen and therefore produce more blood which puts added strain on your heart, twin mommies tend to be anemic and it usually only get's worse, and unfortunately for me-heart disease runs in my family. So now I'm waiting for an echocardiogram to see if my heart is too enlarged.
The recliner only works for me if it's almost straight up and down because they press on my vena cava, which restricts the blood flow back to the heart. I have to sleep sitting up most nights.
Not to gripe or anything! LOL. ;)
